Just wondering if you went to Vegas for a trip -quick weekend preferred- how much did the trip cost you total?
Can you break up by hotel, airfare (where from?) and misc costs (shows, food, etc?).
Thanks!

We've been to Vegas 3 times in the past 5 years.
The first trip we took (March of 08), we did it super cheap. We did airfare/hotel from expedia or something like that and it was $600 for two of us, with 2 nights stay at the Luxor and direct flights (from MSP). We also went to a show (Beatles Love), tickets were $50 a piece for that. We ate pretty cheap, I'd say under $200 for the 3 days we were there.
Second time around (April of 2012), we stayed for 4 nights at Mandalay Bay and also rented a car. Booked through travelocity...for airfare, hotel, and car it was $850. Flights were direct again from MSP. We didn't do a show this time around, but spent more money on food and exploring things outside of the strip. I'd guess we spent around $350 on food.
Third time was in April. This time, we stayed for 5 nights at the Mirage and also rented a car. Booked it all through travelocity...total was $1100. Probably spent $500 on food. We also hit up the Hoover Dam and a Cirque show.
My husband loves Vegas, and I'm always willing to go on vacation anywhere I can chill by the pool for a day! We're thinking of going again in October or November.

We've been twice. I don't know how much the airfare was because my dad gave us mileage to use. I know the first time we had a jacuzzi suite at MGM and it was around 150$, the next time (may of this year) we stayed at the Tropicana and I believe it was around 100$ a night.
We usually budget about 100$-150$ a day for food, which for us is a cheap breakfast and lunch, and a dinner somewhere decent. If you are a foodie or want to eat at the nicer restaurants, you can easily drop that much on one meal. Alcohol is very expensive, so if you are going to drink, budget some in for that as well.
We never saw shows (sad face), but just walking around the strip is entertainment enough, so you don't need much other than some gambling money (and we play the penny slots, so we never lose much!)

Depends where you stay.
We went in May 2007 & stayed at the stratosphere. It was something like $80/night for a suite.
We went in January 2010 and stayed at the Palms and got a strip view suite and it was $110/night. Worth every single penny!
We always rent a car. WAY less than paying for a cab. Valet parking is free at all the hotels! We tip a few bucks.
We fly southwest and airfare is pretty cheap out of Pittsburgh. Maybe $400 round trip for the both of us?
My parents & sister just went for two weeks last month & stayed at the Rio. I can ask for more specifics if you'd like!

We went to Vegas 2 years ago (Monday thru Friday) and it cost less than $1000 for airfare and hotel (Harrah's). Food probably cost an additional couple hundred bucks... We didn't see any shows ( )
ETA: We also took a bus trip to the Hoover Dam for an additional $150-200, I think.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: your post reminded me, I was going to mention the monorail. It runs behind the strip and is a really fast and cheap alternative to cabs during the day. At night I'd take a cab for safety and because it can be a 5-10 min walk from where you are in the casino to the station, but I highly recommend it for daytime excursions. I think a 3 day pass is like 25$.

I love Vegas! This isn't a breakdown, sorry:
I think besides air/hotel - food/drink are a big expense. I find that unless you look for deals, food and drink are very expensive. We spent $45 on a breakfast buffet at MGM but we also hit up a cafe in NYNY and got coffee, yogurt and a croissant X2 for $10. Small mixed drinks by the pool or at a club were $15 each plus tip!
Shows are my favorite part! Tickets to cirque/top music shows are usually at least $50 each for the less expensive seats.
Transportation adds up too if you plan to cab from the south of the strip to the north or to Freemont. We used the monorail a couple times too.
My DH likes to gamble so we have a separate amount allotted to 'throw away' that doesn't affect our spending money.

Yeah, the big thing is def airfare for us bc there usually aren't direct flights. They typically range $300 RT per person. I know I can get hotel, food and show deals SUPER cheap.
We don't gamble so probably won't even bother. I think if/when we go we def want to take in one show - probably Cirque De Soleil so good to know it's only like $50pp !

@Bookworm: true! We rented a car for a week for $25, though, and since valet parking is free this was a cheaper alternative.
If you're only going for a few days, the monorail might be a better option!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: nice!! That's a great deal. DH was too afraid to drive around the strip

@Mrs. Jump Rope: good to know! @Bookworm: DH can handle Manhattan traffic so he can drive anywhere!
Do you guys think there is a "low" season for Vegas?

I've never been to Vegas, but I'm following this b/c DH and I want to renew our vows for our 5-year in 2015...Elvis style!
Wow, I didn't know rooms there were so affordable! Do any hotels throw in free breakfast or anything?
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
@locavore_mama: I have no idea if there is a "low" season but I can tell you that it's freezing cold in March, unbearably hot in July, and lovely in January and May.
ta-da!

I've been to Vegas a bunch, and have found it to be really expensive because of the miscellaneous costs (mainly food, but also transportation especially if you're planning on taking cabs). For a weekend, I'd say we spend $300 on food/drink per person, which includes nice dinners. We've been to Cirque shows and think we spent around $75-100 per person. Cabs are the kicker, I think each ride usually comes out to $12 or around that!
I don't think there's really a low season for Vegas because there are always conferences, trade shows, etc going on there.

We went for my husbands birthday in June.
350 a night for the new York, new York ziggaraut suite.
100 to drive (I don't fly and we live in Utah)
500 for food and gambling and shopping.
We didn't go to shows because my husband doesn't like them.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Mrs. Jump Rope: oh thanks! Good to know! For some reason I always thought it was hot or warm in Vegas. Dur.

@locavore_mama: the pools are closed sometime in Oct until April. My favorite time to go is September or late May.
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
@locavore_mama: How long do you plan on going for?
My parents always go for 10+ days at a time. They make sure to book a room with a fridge in it, then run to the store and get things like deli meat and yogurt, and make their own bfast and lunches. It saves them a ton on food!
I always take $500 in gambling money. I don't let myself spend a penny more, and whatever I win is put into another mini purse that I take -- I don't let myself gamble with my winnings.
We also take $500 for fun money. We spent it on food and shopping. We don't go to shows, but we love to shop, so... we do that instead
We usually book our cars through Enterprise. Google coupon codes first! There are direct flights out of Pittsburgh... Can you fly out of here?
I was surprised at how inexpensive the hotels on the strip were. I always thought they would be the most expensive, but they weren't. Ask to be upgraded once you check in, too. They usually upgrade you for free!

@Mrsjets: good to know!
@betsyboop: DH & I have always wanted to go to Vegas. It was suppose to be my 30th birthday surprise. But then I got knocked up and it was 1 week away from my EDD! hahaha. We want to go once! It's like a must do for everyone, right?

We have been a few times...here are average costs:
Flight (Detroit-LAS, non stop): $350-500/pp
Hotel: $105-$225/night. We got a great deal at the Bellagio once for $105. Otherwise we have generally gotten $150-200 for a night at Venetian & Mandalay.
Dinner: Ugh...I would say $600 per trip. Usually 2 or 3 fancy dinners and one cheapy. We usually go for 3 nights - and tend to go cheaper on our first night. By fancy I mean Delmonico's, Mixx, Botali's restaurant, etc - usually with a bottle of wine.
Lunches: We go super cheap here - i.e. DH and I split something. $20 total.
Breakfast: Under $10 - usually just coffee and a muffin from somewhere and in the hotel. Sometimes I am super resourceful and bring snacks/bars.
Nightlife: I'll estimate $500 per trip. This would be our bar tabs and or any shows we attend. DH and I buy liquor and keep it in the room to get a good start before going out. Otherwise its stupid expensive. We got tickets to Phantom for $50/pp last time we went - it was super fun!
Gambling: I refuse to spend more than $100 gambling for a weekend. Usually I break even at least or make enough back to cover our dinner that night or something. I dont want to think about what DH spends gambling! This is why we only go once....BUT you can drink for free while you gamble - so I usually justify $30/day in gambling since it pays off!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: If we go it will only be for the weekend likely. I'm thinking we will ask my ILs to watch LO. Pitts is still a 4 hour drive so not sure if the savings will be worth the additional travel time! Thanks for the tips!
Based on everyone's reco maybe I'll see if we can go for my 32nd next year! My birthday is in early May. OR end of April right before LO turns 2?
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
@locavore_mama: I meant a connecting flight... My SIL went to Vegas with some friends in May and they flew Delta, I believe. IDK why they didn't go Southwest! They flew PGH > Charlotte > ATL > Vegas. Whew. What a trip!
Southwest for the win!!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: We are convinced that renting a car is the way to go in Vegas. It is so darn cheap, and parking is free everywhere! We've had a few crazy encounters driving down the strip, but it has made our trips so much more enjoyable!
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Mrs. Jump Rope: thanks! I've got a farewatcher going so I'm thinking if I see a crazy deal we're just gonna throw caution to the wind and go!
Saids me now until it actually comes up and I hem and haw about $.

@locavore_mama: dooo it. :).vegas is a blast. The weather in April (we got married in vegas in April 2011) is perfect. May was.getting on the warm side, but I was 32 weeks pregnant and not going to be happy about the weather no matter what it was

@locavore_mama: I hear ya! I hate buying plane tickets. I always worry there will be a better deal ill miss out on!

We went for 4 days in 2010, and went through a travel agency for a package. DH had a $400 gift certificate and it was $400 for the both of us. We stayed at MGM grand. We spent about $500 on food/souvenirs/shows id say, maybe a little less. We didn't rent a car.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@sarbear: epiphany. Next travel voucher: go to Vegas! Then let us crash in your room! hahaha JK

I don't remember the breakdown of what cost what, but I think I was $1500 deep for 3 nights in June @ the Wynn. I highly recommend the Wynn though, it's beautiful and so worth the extra money.

@locavore_mama: haha maybe we can come up with a better place! Lol
