Hmm, tricky question for me because DH and I have partly shared, partly separate finances. I know how much is in our joint account and my own accounts, but I'm really not sure of the grand total or of whether I should vote based on the joint account or a rough guess at the total amount.

$0. Yep.

Not enough.

We have 4 different savings accounts. A decent chunk in our primary savings that we actively put money into, a secondary "emergency" savings account that holds another chunk, an investment account, and DH has a trust fund.

It's a pretty good amount total.

With DH's monthly student loan payments of $3300 I am pretty much the sole contributor to our savings account. I recently started being able to really dump money in there - but of course I go on maternity leave shortly and my ability to save will be put on hold until January.

We're both 31...our goal is to have $100K in savings by 35. The day DH makes his final student loan payment (7 year) we will be having a HUGE party.

I should mention that I max out my 401K - about $450 (my and my employers contributions weekly) - that makes me feel better.

We used to have a lot more but we used almost all of it for the down payment on our house. We have since been slowly rebuilding it but I quit my job to be a SAHM so it's sad to see the number now compared to what it once was...

We have a very healthy savings account just in Australia (plus about half that again in the US and UK) and if you factor in our shares, it just about doubles. That being said, we do not yet own a home because we haven't yet gotten to a point where we know where we're going to settle down long term. Once we do move, we have enough to make a massive down payment on a house and keep a healthy savings in reserve.

It is a nice peace of mind to know that we have a strong safety net should we need it, and DH and I are both savers by nature, so it works well for us.

We're in 6 figures, but it's about to get WIPED OUT for the down payment on our new house!!!

Coming in late to this, the poll is so interesting! @HLK208: seriously. If I had $500k+, like at least 4 bees say they do, I'd be bathing in it. Just kidding.... sort of.

We make sure to keep our savings adding up by depositing our checks directly into savings and only taking out specified amount each month into our checking, which is FAR less than we make monthly. That way we can ensure we have enough, aren't spending too much, and keep growing that savings who's interest far exceeds our checking. So far so good! We have been able to nearly double our savings in the past year this way, even with crappy medical bills.

I just wanted to point out that there are few savings accounts making much in the way of interest right now. (We have a couple that are high yield on a limited amount of money)... So that means that many investors will have a lot of their money tied up in things like mutuals, stocks and other investment mechanisms. I didn't count any of that stuff, just what is in savings accounts.

@Mrs. Jacks: that's what I was referring to...most of our money is in those other investments, and not sitting in a savings account!

A pretty high amount I think, considering we are only 25. We save about 25% of after tax income though, so we've worked hard to get it where it is and we keep growing it.

Not including our 401k or anything, in our savings that we have access to we have just over 5k. Our goal is to get to 10k ASAP. I think anymore than that isn't necessary. At least for our cost of living area.

We don't have much money sitting in savings. We refinanced to a super low fifteen year mortgage just before the rates jumped up so that is my very good reason for using up almost all of our savings, again.

We wiped ours when we paid for our wedding and bought our first house in the space of a month (we didn't even get a honeymoon!!). So, yeah, we're basically starting again but it's worth it to actually be homeowners.... that's an investment in itself.
