I voted in the $5-$10k range, buuuut I forgot about one of the accounts DH brought into the marriage! So really we're in the $15-$20k range.
DH is a saver. I'm a shopper. It works out because I love seeing our account balances so high! And I end up buying cheapie things to satisfy my shopping urges.
Included in my shopping problem is the urge to pay off debt. My student loans add up to just under what we have saved. I SO want to just throw all the money at the debt and make it disappear, but that would be really dumb.

We have about $1500 in savings. Enough of an emergency fund to keep me happy. I hate having a huge savings balance; my student loan interest rate is insane so it makes absolutely no sense for me to keep $ sitting in savings, earning at a lower rate.
Any extra $ we have goes toward those damn student loans! :-\

Uh yeah.. just enough to cover my maternity leave and hospital bills plus supplement the amount we'll be in the red every month paying for a nanny for about 6 months - a year. So it's a really good thing DH was promoted recently and gets a bigger bonus next year since we will need every penny.. I'm secretly hoping this finally pushes him over the edge towards moving to Philly though - watching our savings completely disappear and have nothing to show for it..

@Modern Daisy: I'm hoping for the same! It's so hard to look at houses there for less than the price of our tiny apt!

Still a nice sum, but we recently sunk a good amount into our house down payment. I feel like no amount is ever "enough" though.

@Cherrybee: you've described my situation exactly! Except I may or may not still be paying for my wedding one year later! Oops!

Holy crap!!! Some of you have 500k in savings?? We just started really saving in the last year, and we were almost to 20k ... Instead of buying a home this year, we opted to rent our dream home, and used a big chunk of our savings for our deposits and first/last rent. It feels good to have $$$ in the bank, but I wish we weren't so hard on ourselves for being slow to grow it or taking money out.

@Vegmama: I wish I had rented a dream home by the beach before I purchased my suburban condo!

@Pumpkinspice: I hate that you're in that situation, but I'm glad I'm not alone! Hang in there! Let me know if you need any support!

We practically have nothing. We had some big emergencies that took us down to zero and we aren't saving much since we have credit card debt. This year we will have two preschool tuitions so I don't think it's going to get much better any time soon.

We had a really good chunk and then we bought an apt in NYC so it is back to the drawing board.

We have about 4 months of our combined net income in a savings account, I'd like to have 6, but I don't know how soon we will get to that since we have some other financial goals that are taking priority. We also have other investments and such that I didn't count though since they aren't necessarily easily accessible should we need them in an emergency.
