We're having a garage sale tomorrow.... and people around here seem pretty cheap. At the last one DH tried to sell some things and refused to take a low price on them. And then they continued to hang out in our garage, and not get used. Hoping I can get him to bring the price down this time, anything is better then nothing and having to store all that crap!

@mediagirl: His big items are a poker table, and we have a huge tv that he's already said will give away for free thank goodness! And he has a light up sign from before my time. My stuff is little, like clothes, shoes, cds, books, etc. I'll give them away for cheap, I was just going to donate them anyway!

I'd price everything at $1. CD's, books - $.50 or $.25. The TV, if it's not flat screen, will definitely be better as a freebie. It probably won't sell (experience). Poker table - advertise in CL for that one You may get a good deal on it. Light up sign? Don't tell my husband, he would buy it for $5 from you.

I generally expect to garage sale items to be priced fairly cheap, unless they're higher end/collector items.

I go to garage sales mostly for baby clothes or toys, and I don't pay more than $2 - and only that if it's an outfit, otherwise $1 or less.

We're having a garage sale next weekend and I plan to price everything really cheaply. Whatever doesn't sell is going to Goodwill. I just want it out of the house.

I would suggest books for $0.25 paperback and $0.50 hardback; $1 CD, clothing varies but probably $0.50-1 an item (unless new with tag then maybe $5 if an outfit). Good luck getting DH to drop his prices, I can't even get mine to consider getting rid of anything in the first place.

I generally only browse garage sales for art and collectibles (I collect old cameras and DH collects old toys), and I generally like to cap my spending at $5/art or $20/collectible depending on what it is. I normally see books, clothing, movies, etc going for $0.50 - $1.

If it's stuff you're tired of storing, put a low price on it & say bye-bye! There is no point in keeping anything you won't use!

I have noticed that Craigslist does better for the big items then a garage sale. People are looking for a bargain at garage sales and will haggle more than someone on Craigslist...worth a try!

I'm going garage sale-ing on Friday to find some baby items and outdoor furniture. I hate to say it, but I'm pretty cheap with what I'll spend on an item at a garage sale. If it's not a "screaming deal", I'm not interested. I'm hoping to get a small outdoor table with 2 decent chairs for under $20.
And I think putting items at price points where you don't need to make change is ideal ($1, $5, $10, $20). When I buy things on Craigslist listed at $25, I always ask if they'll take $20 because I really hate having to find that extra $5 bill! -
We had a big family garage sale with some larger things (mattress, furniture, tv's, etc) and things actually sold for some good prices. We advertised the sale on CL and listed the things we had for sale which helped. I think the TV's we sold for maybe $10-$20? I think we got like $100 for a king mattress.
For little clothes, toys, household items, etc I would keep everything under $5 for sure, probably more around $1-$2.
