Used to be much more OCD about separating colors, darks, light/whites, towels/sheets. But since baby and laundry like every day, I generally just do lights and darks. Everything on cold (unless I do towels and sheets alone). Lulu always goes in cold, no towels.

I can't believe how many don't separate! So many red shirts have ruined white clothes and dark clothes have bled on red/coral color clothes and made them look dingy

I separate like crazy
Bleachables - towels, sheets, socks, underwear
Diapers - cloth diapers and paraphernalia
Lights
Jeans - mostly for drying time so my shirts don't shrink
Colors - blues, greens etc
Reds, purples, oranges and browns - this is most of the delicates
Blacks

I just throw it all in the washer together. I only separate things that need to be hand washed like bras. And if we have a bunch of towels, I'll do those separately also. We don't wear much whites so that helps.

Ours are not done by color, unless I really have to bleach some socks, sheets, and towels. I do my work clothes (delicate/low heat dry), DH's work clothes (fisherman with GROSS clothes that are never really clean), and P's clothes (since I use free and clear detergent for hers). Once we have our own washer/dryer I expect it will different. I will likely only separate DH's smelly work clothes, and do the rest as they come so that I don't get behind.
