I'm going to be totally honest here (and I'm pretty ashamed and embarrassed about it), but we spend a ridiculous amount of money on food! It's just me, DH, and LO (10 mo) and we spend about $300 on food per week. Eating organic is important to me, so I am okay with spending more for better quality food, but we should be able to spend half of what we do.
There are two main problems - I meal plan every week but I end up following through on about 60% of my weekly menu. I do my best, but I work from home and am home with LO from 7:30-7 every day while DH is at work and then when he gets home I usually end up working and doing (a tiny amount of) housework. There really is no excuse about not having enough time though. The second problem is DH - he eats out at work every day. Even on the days I am together enough to have him take something (which I'll be honest, is not that often), half the time he won't eat it. And on nights when I tell him I need him to handle dinner, he always gets take out.
I'm trying to be realistic. I know I can't expect DH to miraculously morph into a chef, but I really need him to make a better effort with food. We've talked about it a lot and he always agrees and says he understands, but nothing changes...
So to the point! How much do you spend on food per week (for how many adults/children)? I'm hoping to shock myself into action. Thanks!
