How much does your LO eat while you're at work?

When my mom was watching M she ate ~ 15oz when I'm at work. She started daycare on Monday and went down to 11oz. And today only 9.5 oz!!!
I think that's a huge drop. I'm just concerned they are watching the clock rather than listening to her hunger cues.

She's in daycare for 8 hours and I think kellymom saids 1.5oz per hour right? Which means she should at least be taking 12oz.

She tends to fuss in the middle of feedings so I'm afraid they think that means she's done.
I'm def having my husband bring this up to them tomorrow.

Yes, typically infants eat 1 to 1.5 oz of breastmilk for every hour they are away from mom. But infants are crazy. It is not uncommon for a breastfeeding infant to eat less during the day and reverse cycle and eat all night. This is ultimately what my son did. So, you should check to see if that is happening.

There must be some spidey sense telling you that they aren't following the hunger cues. You should talk to them about that. What is their feeding plan? How often do they feed? Are they throwing away what isn't eaten (thus not allowing enough at the end).

They also may not have a lot of experience with breast milk and feeding a breastfed baby. You may have educate them on how much to feed and how often.

It could also just be an adjustment period that will even out if you give it enough time. Though, talking to your daycare provider won't hurt anything. At least then you can both be on the same page.

The first few days my son was in daycare he didn't eat much at all. Like he only at 4-5 oz the whole day and then ate non-stop once I got home. Luckily he adjusted and now he eats anywhere from 10-15 oz while he is there. They do use a 2 hour schedule at mine but that is just a reference. They also watch for hunger cues. I would definitely talk to them about it.

@brownie: I don't know if some of it is from my guilt of putting her in daycare so everything's just extra sensitive?

Usually she nurses 4-5 times with me. Once when we get home then again after her bath to sleep. Then 1-2 times overnight and once in the morning. They feed her 4x at daycare so by my calculations using the 25oz a day method she should be getting about 12oz!
I'm telling my husband to mention it to them and I wrote up a note for him to take so they don't forget.
@sweetkate: I'm hoping that's the case so we'll see how tomorrow goes.

I told them that she eats about every 2 hours but sometimes it's 1.5hours. But from the daily feeding/diaper change report they give me it looks like they follow the 2hr schedule to a T.

Add to it she just seems off today and my husband agrees. She's not as alert as she usually is. She fell asleep in the car on the way home which doesn't usually happen. When we came home I nursed her and she usually takes a 20min nap but she fell into a deep sleep for 40minutes then opened her eyes. By that time we had passed the bathing window so I just changed her into her sleeper for the night. And she was deep sleep again in 20mins. Which is really fast for her.

I'm just a worried mama!

@regberadaisy: It will all be okay. If you don't like the schedule, tell them. They should work with you. If it is going to work, you have to be a team for your baby.

I suspect that she is off today because everything is different. There is a lot different stimulation.

Give it a week and see what happens. If you don't like it there, you can also look for another daycare that works better.

@regberadaisy: I know how it is to worry! You just want what's best for M. I had a really hard time with someone else being responsible for my lo. But once he adjusted and I saw how well he was doing, it made it so much easier. (though I still get a little teary eyed when I drop him off...)

I also agree with what brownie said, they should definitely listen to your concerns and work with you to figure out what works best for your lo.

Mine does usually eat a little less on the one day a week that I work out of the house. Once in a while he goes on a huge feeding binge and my husband has to thaw out milk, but typically he seems to save the mega feeds for when I get home.

I usually have 3-4 five oz bottles ready to go- today he went through three while I was at work. He will drink ok from the bottle, but better from the breast. I think usually he and my husband just get into a sleepy pattern hanging around the house relaxing and he doesn't give his hunger cues as much.

@regberadaisy: How old is she?

We started LO at daycare at 3 months. We sent 4- three ounce bottles to be fed every 2 hours. (12 ounces total) Sometimes because of naps and such she only took three bottles. We eventually just moved to four ounce bottles but only sent three (still 12 ounces total).

I think around six months we started sending five ounce bottles (15 ounces) but by 9 months when she was really eating solids good, we only sent 2 bottles (10 ounces).

@Thehistoryofus: she'll be 12 weeks tomorrow -yowzer!- she hardly naps at all. Maybe 30mins, not enough to miss a feeding. And also because she doesn't always take the same amount we just leave all the milk in lasinoh bags and send empty bottles.
I just don't think they're reading her cues right. Yesterday there was a feeding that was 1.5oz only. I don't remember the last time she ate so little!
But then again maybe it's just a adjustment period for her.

I'm just really afraid of her being hungry from prior feeding issues when she was a newborn.
