$300-$400 tops which would be for 50 people and a gift. That may even be too much.

I overspent for their first birthday...probably around $600. We had just moved WAAAY far south (like, 2 hours) from all of our friends and family, so we rented a small (city-owned) facility closer to everyone else. That was $200 of it.

Until they're in school and old enough to have separate parties, I'll be capping it at $100 and we'll be having it at our house

I really want to keep it to a minimum if possible. I am planning to make all of the decorations mostly with supplies that I have leftover from various projects/our wedding, bake a cake/cupcakes, cook the food, and design invites. Even doing everything diy I'm sure just the cost of food (and drinks of course!) will come out somewhere between $100-$200. We are having the party at our house with an invite list of about 35 people.

For their first birthday, I spent less than $20 on cake stuff. Gifts, less than $20 per kid. I'm a cheap-o.

We spent about $3K on DD's 1st birthday, but like others have mentioned, first birthdays are huge in Korean culture. We had 75 guests and it was at a restaurant...it was like planning a mini wedding reception, almost! Went a lot smaller for her 2nd birthday and spent about $200 on catered food, decorations and cake.
