    In our suburb... Nothing. I

n our entire city... Maybe a tiny, moldy, leaky, uninsulated 1 or 2 bedroom apartment. If you're REALLY lucky. Yay, New Zealand.

I cry (nearly daily) about the cost of Bay Area real estate. Ownership seems just so far out of our reach...

I don't know where in Manhattan people are talking about finding studios for 200k. Impossible.

In my nabe, 200K will buy you a parking spot maybe/ Studios are around 400k. It is insane.

Um, for $200,000 you could get a MANSION in our town. We paid less than $100,000 for our house (3 bedrooms, 2 baths, but pretty small), 15 acres, and a couple of nice outbuildings.

You can't get anything in my city for $200k. A studio condo is $250 w/out parking. The lowest priced tiny single family home right now is $650 and that will sell in a day. Most starter homes are in the 850-1.2 range. Good luck finding one though, they sell in a second.

In my current neighborhood my house would go for $200k. It's 5 bed/3ba, 2600sf. 2 car garage. .25acre.

Closer to where I work, you could get a townhome with 3 bed/2ba for $200k.

Here you could get a nice home for 200K - something like a new construction 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2,000 sq. ft. fenced yard, etc.

This is interesting! In my city, $200k would get you a pretty decent home on the outskirts of town. However, the closer you get to downtown the higher prices get (like most areas). Downtown you might be able to get a studio type apartment for 200k. It's crazy that ten minutes outside of downtown you could get a pretty nice 3-4 bedroom home for the same price!

That would get you a 4 bed, 2.5 bath here. Probably 2500 sq ft., brand new.

We're going to move in a couple of months and are house hunting. For 200k you could get a 4 bed, 2-3 bath, 2000-3000sq foot home with a 2 car garage and a backyard. not brand new but 5-10 years old!

It's depressing to see how little you can get here with $200k.

You can get a 2BR, 2BA condo, with 1400 sq ft where I live. We're looking for a starter home right now and it will likely cost us about $325k at least.

Suburbs of NYC. $200,000 won't get you a house. You can get a one or two bedroom condo.

Nothing in my area but probably a fairly decent starter house or condo!

We could get a really nice rambler in a beautiful neighborhood.

Probably 1500-1800 sqft. Updated and well maintained. Good neighborhood with good schools.

    @Bao: me too.

In my specific area you would probably get a GREAT 2 bedroom or even 3 in a decent neighborhood.
Go down about 10mins away and you could find better.
I'd say in this entire state (of MI) you could def find an awesome 4-5 bedroom in newish condition.
My general area, not so much but still 3 bedroom probably.
We have 4,600sq ft and we paid a little less than $320k

a small, older 2 bedroom home with a yard. Anything less than 200k is a lot or a mobile home.

A small empty lot in a not desirable area, a less than 1000 sf condo near a junior college that needs a lot of work, an old trailer/mobile home with a land lease of $600+ per month.

Starter home in my area. Probably an older home. Or you might be able to find a nice condo for that price.

I live about 25 miles from Seattle so prices are cheaper than in the city.

200K would probably buy a 1 bedroom condo in my area.

I've never seen a house here lower than 400K, and those are the really tiny terrible houses in awful neighborhoods.
