I'm really curious to see what others spend at the grocery store every week. So, how much is your weekly grocery bill? How many eaters are in your family? Does it include stuff like napkins, paper towels, toiletries? Beer and wine?

We try to spend $400/mo on food so I voted $100-$150. We are trying to be better about our food bill but gosh food is so expensive!! I'd say $100-$150/wk is pretty spot on.

$50-$100 for the 3 of us. I told DH (he does 98% of the food shopping) to try to stay around $75/week and under $400 a month. I'm trying to ask him to come up with ways to cut back even more, to maybe $300-$350 so that's a work in progress.

$100 per week at the grocery store plus about $50 every other week at Costco. Thats for 4 of us.
That doesn't include most paper goods (we just buy in bulk every six months or so) and we dont really drink beer/wine.

Typically $85-$100 per week for two adults and a toddler. No toiletries or household products, just food and occasionally alcohol. We eat out or get take out for one meal each week so groceries cover all other meals and snacks. We drive out of our way to go to a cheaper store but we save more than enough to make up for the gas each week.

On average, about $130 per week for two adults and one toddler. This doesn't include household items since we buy that on a more monthly basis in bulk. We don't buy beer or wine. My husband is only a social drinker and I don't like to buy it because I only drink at home every once in awhile. We won't be buying any beer anyway until at least October when I'm no longer pregnant.

Four of us and we usually spend ~$125/week. That includes toiletries, but doesn't include diapers/wipes. And we usually get take-out once a week.

Right now, it is 200 per week for us. It is for 2 adults, a preschooler, and toddler, and our nanny eats lunch / snacks 3 days a week. All lunches are packed. Includes beer and wine and the occasional toiletry or paper good if I run out, but I try to buy those on sale/online. It just feels like SO MUCH. We go out usually once a week. We don't have a COSCO here, but we do have a BJs and I'm thinking of joining.

We mostly cook at home these days, so usually we spend between $150-200. We are a family of 3 (2 adults one toddler). My mother eats dinner with us (we cook) 2 nights a week and my MIL brings us dinner on Thursday nights. We also buy mostly organic food, so that drives up the price. No alcohol is included in this budget, but sometimes toiletries/cleaning supplies.

We average around $180 per week these days. DH, LO (3) and me. All weekday meals are prepared at home and I try to get mostly organic produce, meat and dairy. Not included is a Costco trip every 3 weeks or so for paper products and some other things. Also not included is beer/wine. We usually have tons from gifts/my husband's work but I probably buy something once every few months.

We do a big Costco trip every few weeks and supplement from a local fruit/veg store a handful of times a month. Probably works out out to $8-1000/monthly. That's for me, DH, my mom (primary caretaker), 2 dogs, 2 DSs!
This includes paper products, alcohol, water, etc.

Where's the TOO much option?
This is a constant work in progress. And definitely a big chunk of our monthly budget that we want to pare down!
Some weeks we spend next to nothing, under $100 and others it's $200.
This does include most paper goods and such. All 3 meals, snacks, alcohol (for adults!) for 2 adults and 2 eating kids. We get takeout maybe 2x a month.
We are also the ones that end up hosting family dinners 2-3x a month for 4 additional adults. So that does add up too!

I spend $80-$90. I'm sure it will go up once DD starts solids. I should add that doesn't include any Sam's trips. We go there every 2 months or so to stock up. We also eat out or get takeout 2-3 meals a week. So the amount we spend on food overall probably averages to $140 a week.

Usually right around 100.00, just for food and probably most of our toiletries (except my face care stuff)I buy paper products and cleaning stuff at Costco or on Amazon once a month or so.
It doesn't typically include more than one package of meat- we get beef and pork from my husbands parents, and chicken from my parents. So I only occasionally pick up "extra" meat.
We buy mostly organic produce but not exclusively, and always get local and/or organic dairy and meat.
I usually alternate between driving further to go to trader joes and a co-op, or just go to shaws which is closer by about 10 minutes. When I shopped exclusively at the co-op I spent 150 a week, so we've cut back some.
This feeds 2 adults (one pregnant), and one very hungry toddler for about 98% of our meals. Sometimes my husband gets lunch, but he has a ton of free meals saved up from call shifts. I sometimes buy lunch. We go out either as a family or as a couple maybe once a month. We don't get takeout because it isn't available in our rural town.
Oh- and I have celiac disease. So we do have to buy some expensive bread products.
Eta: doesn't include alcohol. I'm not drinking right now, so I'm not buying it. My husband gets a 4-pack of nice beer once a week or every other week (and has some other stuff lying around). So that's another probably 20-30 bucks a month.

We generally spend 200/month at Costco for food items, and 50-75/week at the grocery store.
This is for 2 adults and a 9 month old

$100 a week. We shop at the discount grocer so this money goes a long way as we rarely eat out. It is for 3 people (2 adults, one LO, one dog). It includes dog food, toiletries, household products, etc.
We'll occasional go to Costco, but only buy 1 or 2 things.
No regular expenditures on alcohol, unless it is a special occasion/gift.
clementine / 854 posts
For DH and I it's about $85 a week on average. Once every few months we'll go to Costco and spent $150 or so.

$150-200/week This is for 2 adults, 1 toddler and a dog. I included diapers, wipes, dog food, paper products, household basics (dish soap, detergent), and toiletries. For meals its 7 days a week of breakfast and lunch for the adults, and 5 dinners, plus snacks.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
We only shop every other week but if I broke it down weekly it would average $75 a week.
pineapple / 12793 posts
About $220 per week and a $300 Costco trip every other month. Includes paper products, basic toiletries, dog food, cat food. Two adults, one preschooler, one toddler, one newborn, one big dog, and two cats.

We spend about $200 a week between groceries and target stuff (diapers, toiletries, etc.) we use a local prepared meals service for weeknight dinners, which is about $8-9 per meal. Our spending has gone up since using that obviously but it's well worth the $!
grapefruit / 4819 posts
We spend about £100 a week, which converts to roughly $150. That includes all paper products, toiletries, cleaning products, baby items etc, for a family of four. We don't watch what we buy and we certainly don't scrimp on the expensive items (meat and produce) but nearly every week, without fail, it comes to £100, give or take £10. That also includes alcohol, so you'd think the price would go down, given that I am pregnant and not drinking my usual glass of wine most evenings, but we seem to be holding steady - I blame my chocolate and sweets cravings!
persimmon / 1095 posts
Around $100/week for 2 adults. We eat mostly organic and I buy our eggs, meat, and some produce at the farmers market which makes out bill on the higher end. This doesn't include DD's formula. We use cloth napkins so we don't have that expense
nectarine / 2115 posts
We budget $180 for a two-week period, so I voted 100-150... We do occasionally go over, so that's probably pretty accurate.
grapefruit / 4187 posts
Mine is always over $200 but it includes diapers, cleaning supplies and toiletries. If I were to subtract these things it would be more like $150. I also only shop at one store because I don't have time to stock up at a Costco so we are definitely paying more for convenience.
honeydew / 7622 posts
I'd say $600-700/mo to include Costco, Amazon S&S Hello Fresh, regular grocery store & relevant Target stuff. Includes toiletries, paper products, etc.
T eats about $100/mo in pouches (!) everything else is for 2.
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
oh dear, way too much. prob around $150 average I'd guess in total, split between online grocery delivery services and stopping in our local stores. food is $$$$ in NYC and our closest/most convenient store is Whole Foods...
pomelo / 5607 posts
$100-150, there are 3 of us but LO is only just eating a few solids recently, so she doesn't add much yet. Most of our toiletries come from Amazon, but pet food is part of the grocery bill.
apricot / 343 posts
When we last looked at our budget, we were averaging $900 a month in the grocery category (which includes everything from the grocery store, farmer's market purchases, and bulk food we buy through Amazon.)
We have been trying to trim our budget, but groceries are one area where we just don't see an easy way to do it.
We have two adults, and two toddlers. We buy a reasonable amount of organic local produce/meat. We've also been buying more partially prepared items lately (frozen or precut veggies, for example.)
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
We are a family of 3 (I'm pregnant with LO2), 2 adults and one 18 month old toddler. Our grocery bills are usually really up and down because I'll stock up on things when its on sale and freeze it, but I think a typical weekly shopping trip for fresh stuff is about $60, plus there's usually a bonus stop for more milk, yogurt, fresh fruit, and odds/ends during the week that's about $30. Then there's Costco runs (there's one across the street from our house) for stuff like coffee or frozen fruit so, I'd say we probably spend another $100 there in a month.
But that doesn't include toiletries, diapers, cleaning products, etc. Technically, we don't do a grocery budget, we have a "household" line item that's basically meant to be inclusive of anything I can find at Target or Costco - so groceries, diapering, baby supplies, cleaning supplies, medicine, beauty products, even some clothing (but usually just for DS). I just found it too hard to break everything down into smaller categories because we shop at places like that so often. That line item is obviously much higher.

Approximately $250 per week (but we rarely eat out and pack lunches). We have two kids - even though one is 14 months old he eats more than his 4 year old sister. Food is also very expensive in my city and my preschooler only likes fruit that is neither local nor in season (e.g., $8 strawberries). We buy based on what we want to eat and we don't buy prepackaged/prepared foods. This also includes toiletries.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Freckles: haha yes. The 14 month old eats more than our almost 4 year old too.
pomegranate / 3438 posts
We spend around $150/week with 2 adults and an almost 4 year old. I pack lunch/snacks for me and lunch for my son. My DH usually eats out because he is on the road a lot. Some weeks its more/less depending on what I get. I try to stock up when something is on sale.
This is just for food (and who am I kidding sometimes wine). I buy toiletries, etc at other stores.
eggplant / 11716 posts
I just looked up my debit/credit statements online and literally added up all my transactions. This month is not over and we are at $860. I'm including everything bought in a grocery store, pharmacy, or Target (where we buy diapers, wipes, cleaning supplies, paper products, toiletries, etc and of course...non essentials like art supplies and baby socks).
I'm sure we'll be at $1000 before the month is over because I'll have to grocery shop this weekend. We're a family of 4 and we live in a high COL area.
apricot / 443 posts
I'm trying to get down to $400/month including paper products and Costco (but excluding diapers and wipes). My husband will probably buy one cheapish bottle of wine per month. We try to only eat out once a month and only usually because of travel. This month was hard because we moved and so we are having to replenish our pantry staples.
its hard because I'm dieting and so to eat right I need to up my protein but it's so expensive. My brother recently told me that at the farm stand where he buys eggs it costs him $7 for 36 eggs. I pay $8 for 18 eggs. Super jealous. Thankfully we have just moved to a more populated area so I can shop around for sales more.

It varies, but I'm trying to get it down to a hundred dollars a week. Having to send in breakfast and lunch for DS1 at daycare really adds up.
pomegranate / 3244 posts
Just two of us, and it's usually $80-$100/week. My husband is a really picky eater so we get more or less the same items each visit. That includes things like paper goods (usually 1x/month) but doesn't include personal grooming things. We shop at the regular grocery store for most dry/canned goods, dairy & meats, a smaller "natural" foods store for produce, and usually stop 1x/month at a Mexican grocer for specialty cuts of meat and produce/dry goods we can't find at the regular grocery store.
I just signed up for a CSA half-share at $300 for the growing season, which gets us a box of fresh fruit/veggies every other week from April-October. Hopefully that will cut down visits to the store as well!!
cantaloupe / 6206 posts
I TRY to keep it to $150/week but almost always fail. And we shop at Trader joe's so it's the cheapest stuff around. We eat a lot of meat and fish and as much organic food as possible. That's for 2 adults and a toddler, no alcohol or paper products, and doesn't cover many breakfasts and lunches for the week.
pear / 1718 posts
We're currently spending $80 on Plated and another $150 for groceries. But this includes lunches for everyone. We also probably eat out once during the week.
