I hope to take 8 weeks. Where I work, I have to use my personal days first (which are paid) and anything else I want to take after I use my personal days is docked pay. Seems kind of unfair! Lucky for me, it is my first baby and I has a ton (40) days saved up from never taking any days off. I feel bad for friends who have babies back to back or don't have many days to begin with!

I am still waiting for baby to arrive....but will return to work Oct 3, 2013. 52 weeks will be taken.

I took 14 weeks total; 2 before baby and 12 after. 10 weeks were paid (through a combination of 6 weeks STD and 4 weeks personal time) and 2 weeks were unpaid.

Ill be taking 12 wks post l&d. 10 paid, 2 unpaid. But starting in Nov ill be working from home and for the next three wks working drom home 2-3x a week!

I took about 13 weeks. I was lucky because at my job I was already off June and July (something I had negotiated) and LO arrived June 20. So I had until August 1 free and clear. Then I took until mid-September, and spread the rest of my available time out over the rest of the year so that I was always off Fridays (I also worked from home two other days).
It was pretty sweet, I know.

I took around 16 weeks. I took the 12 weeks allowed by FMLA and then my company also allows a 30 day personal leave, so I took that as well. Only 6 of those weeks were with pay (and that was just 60% of my salary or whatever short term disability is). You've got to love the American healthcare system!

I took 14 weeks. Only 8 were paid. The first 2 weeks were bed rest induced
However, my boss gave me a rather fun "baby bonus" that covered the remaining 6 weeks

12 weeks total. 2 before baby though I technically worked from home. Then 10 after baby still working from home. It was complicated but I ended up after getting donated leave etc to take only 2 weeks unpaid.
My new job offers 6 months and I have the summer off ao I will be strategic in having the next baby.

I took 4.5 months off and then worked part-time (3 days a week) for 2 months before deciding to be a SAHM! I didn't receive any paid leave - I basically had to use all the vacation time I had banked.

If I ever get pregnant I will take 6 weeks off unpaid.

I'm in New Zealand and am taking 52 weeks of maternity leave (14 weeks partially paid, 38 weeks unpaid - as per legislation).
In addition, I had also saved up over four weeks of vacation time (fully paid by my employer) so although I finished worked in early September, technically I didn't start my maternity leave until Monday this week.

I plan to take about 12 weeks. 6 weeks of paid leave (normally 75% coverage for free, but I'm going to elect the high option for 100% coverage this year and pay $100 for that), 5 weeks would be vacation time, and then unpaid time for another week or so.

I took 12 weeks. About 7.5 of it was paid, the rest unpaid. We can use our sick/vacation time to cover our leave, but I hadn't been there long enough to have enough time to cover the entire thing. I hope with baby number 2 to save enough to take about 10 weeks paid.

12 weeks. 2 weeks are paid. Have a couple of days of PTO left that I might use. Then it re sets for the year and I want to save that for when I go back to work. So, 10 weeks of my leave are unpaid.

I am hoping to take 16 weeks but not sure if I'll be allowed. I'm guaranteed 6 weeks at 60% pay (short term disability) + 6 more weeks unpaid for FMLA. Hoping for another 4 weeks unpaid personal leave. We'll be broke.
OH I'll likely have maybe 1.5 weeks of sick/vacation time on top of that.... my company has a craptastic leave policy so I can't save more than that. -
I'm scheduled to take 12 weeks. 6 weeks will be paid through short-term disability, the remainder my employer is paying for. I feel very fortunate.

not pregnant yet, but I live in canada so I will take 52 weeks. very amazing system we have over here. we get paid 50% for that entire time from the government, and then employers can top that up as well. my employer does not top up though.

I am planning on 6 weeks through STD paid and then 6 weeks through FMLA, unpaid. I just need to check if I have to use all my vacation time before FMLA. I want to save some vacation time for the holidays next year.

@adnama: Boo about your employer not topping up, but we are very lucky to have the year! I just finished the EI application process and it was fairly straightforward, I will get the max 55% from EI, and then my employer tops up to 93% the entire 52 weeks, plus pays the two week waiting period.....
DH was going to split time (I was going to take 10 months, he'd take 2, but he wouldn't have gotten paid (two can't claim EI and his school board doesn't top up) so that got canned pretty quickly.

Is it bad that every time I read FMLA I read it as "F*ck My Life Act"? Like, thanks America, I only get 12 (unpaid!) weeks maternity leave - FML.

Not preggo here either, but when we do (hopefully soon!!!!), I hope to take at least 13 weeks (6 weeks maternity leave, 1 week of parental leave, 6 weeks of FMLA plus whatever PTO I have), and see if I can work part of the week from home for another month or two.

Weeks 8-11: Full pay for parental paid leave to bond with the new born
Week 12: PTO

I took off 12 weeks exactly. It didnt feel like enough at all
The first 8 weeks was paid for by Short term disability but I only got about 60% of my pay
The last 4 weeks was paid for by FMLA bonding time and that was also about 60% -
Another Canadian, I get 52 weeks paid at 55% of my salary. I also maxed out our EI, but my employer doesn't top up.

I won't take any official breaks for the WAH job. I'll just ask my employer to avoid assigning me projects in January/February/March, especially rush ones.
For the PT WOH job I'm taking four weeks unpaid, or I won't be going back at all.

I am hoping to take 8 weeks off after the babies are born and probably a couple weeks prior to their birth since I have to decide early when my leave will start (my job really wants to make sure I have 2 weeks of overlap with my temp. replacement). I'm still trying to work out the details, but that's what I'm hoping.

I took 12 weeks- started 3 days prior to my delivery date and was all unpaid and wouldn't have changed it. I loved spending the time with my LO- So a good sacrifice

I took 6 months off. I was supposed to get 8 weeks of STD at 55% of my pay, but my OB said I was "disabled" bc of high blood pressure for 12 weeks. Then I took 6 weeks of FMLA at 55% of my salary and then I had PTO and sick leave at 100% of my salary. In the end I only had 1 month unpaid (and no benefits, but me and baby were covered under Daddy's plan).
