My friend left his wallet in a cab yesterday while he was in town. He got a call today from the cabbie who found it but since he's already gone the cabbie is going to drop it off with me and I will mail it to my friend. The wallet had $250 cash in it.
How much should I tip the cab driver if the money is still there and how much should I tip if its not? I already am paying the meter fare of about $70, if that makes a difference.

I lost my wallet a few years ago. I tried to give the guy $50 but he refused. I figure $50 is well worth even just getting my ID back, let along the credit cards and whatever cash was in there. My good samaritan didn't touch anything in my wallet, though. I don't know what I would have given had anything been missing.

I'd say $25? Although, I may feel very generous and give 100 bux if the money is there. But since its your friends money, maybe ask him?

If the money is missing, probably nothing but I'd ask your friend because I'm assuming they would be handing over the money.

I would pay him the $70 meter fare and whatever amount in tip you would normally have given him. Then offer a $20 - $50 reward, whichever you can afford. The cabbie will likely not accept the reward.
