We're having a neighbor's 12 year old feed our cats, change the litter, and water a few plants (max 5 minutes of watering) for 14 days. How much should we pay her? I have no idea!

I did pet sitting for our neighbors as a teenager while they went vacation, often 2-3 weeks. My brother took over eventually. Went over twice a day, feed and visited with the cats, changed litter, watered plants. They paid $10 a day when I started 15+ years ago, and upped it to $15 a day maybe 7 or 8 years ago. We always felt it was very generous. I would say $10-15 a day.

Will she be coming every day? I'd agree that about $10-$15/day that she comes over sounds right. Consider how long it takes her to get there/get home, how long she'll spend there, and make sure she's getting at least what she'd make working retail/at an ice cream shop or something (ie., minimum wage).

Thanks, all! You've been very helpful. I was thinking $10 a day (she lives next-door and will only have to be here for a half an hour a day really) and it sounds like that's reasonable.

I paid a professional $15 a visit. So maybe $8-$10 or so?
