My husband just started a new job a couple of months ago, but was able to negotiate 2 weeks off unpaid when he accepted the offer, then part time for an additional 1-2 weeks.
I am having a c section and am so happy he will be available. I am really nervous though because his job is now really short staffed, and I really dont know how they are going to function without him. I have a feeling they are going to be calling him, giving him a hard time, or may go back on their word. We will see.... I have one month until i deliver.

One week with my first, three weeks with our second and two weeks with our third. Three weeks was perfect. But I didn't want him to leave haha.
He took vacation time with each.

My husband took 2 weeks of paternity leave with LO 1, but he ended up splitting them up. He stayed home for 1 week starting the day we had the baby, and then went to work for 1 week, and then took his second week of paternity leave the following week (my extended family was going to the beach that week and we decided to go with them so he switched his paternity leave to that week so he wouldn't have to use vacation time).

2.5 weeks. He received 1 week of paid paternity leave, and the other week and a half was vacation time. He'll likely take the same this time around.

DH took two weeks paid (well, with vacation time) with the first, but this time he just started a new job and barely gets to come to the hospital (depending on when the birth is, of course!) It'll be tough, but my parents are in town and are super wonderful, so we'll make it work!

DH took 2 weeks of paid paternity leave. I think he could have technically taken up to 4 weeks, but in practice, no one in his office (law firm) takes more than two.

With DD he took 2 weeks and with DS he took 3 weeks. There is no difference between sick time and time off for him, it is all just considered paid time off.

@bluestriped bee: We are very lucky. I get 13 weeks paid from my job (law firm) and DW gets a semester (16 weeks) paid form her job (university). The university gives a semester to ALL parents, not just birth moms. It's great! So between the two, which will overlap about 8 weeks, we won't be sending our baby to day care until he is about 9 months (summer 2016). Yay!

@jape14: I think this is utterly ridiculous. Firms are starting to offer parents the same leave but I think we have a long way until we are there (I am in the mid-west). Here dads only take 2 weeks also and moms get 13!

He took one day with baby 1 and none with baby 2 (except the day they were born.... he took their actual birthday off). I was totally OK with it. He has a high pressure job and I had tons of support from my family and told him to get back to work

He took two weeks. The first week was paid paternity leave and the second week was vacation leave.

He took two weeks, one of which was paternity leave and the second which was vacation time. He had just started at the job three months prior so he didn't take as much as he could have. I'm hoping he takes a little more with baby #2, but we'll see...

DH got two weeks of paid paternity leave and he took another 2 weeks of vacation, so 4 total. He was clearly bored, he got a lot of projects done around the house.

6-7 weeks. His workplace offers a fully paid 6-7 week paternity leave for dads.

He took one week but afterwards wished it had been a little more. We didn't think about the fact that we were in the hospital for about a day and a half after S was born so it wasn't a lot of time at home. I think he wished he'd had a full week starting when we got home.

He took 3 days unpaid for LO1. He had only been at the job for 2 months by then and he had the time off for my induction. For this LO he's going to have at least 1 week paid, hopefully 2 since we have older LO to worry about this time.

For LO 1, he took a week off and that included he time I was in the hospital. His work didn't count it as PTO or sick days...just gave him the time off as a freebie since our daughter came very early. When he went back to work he was on a modified schedule where he could leave at 3:30 everyday to come to the NICU.
For LO 2, I think he plans on taking 4 weeks PTO but working from home 1 day/wk.

If I recall, I think it was 2 weeks. He would've gone stir crazy if he stayed home longer!

@Ocean girl: A free week actually sounds amazing for residency!
My hubby is a SAHD so he had unlimited time off... It makes me really sad to see dads home for such brief times, like days. He was so helpful and I couldn't have made it through early days without him.

Two weeks paid paternity leave. He gets three but couldn't be gone that long.

So far just one week paid. He is entitled to 4 weeks within the first six months but we will see what he is actually allowed to take. LO is only 6weeks old today.

One week, all of which we were in the hospital. It was really bad. I had one weekend of help, and then he went back to work. We will not be doing that again.

5 days with our first, almost 2 weeks with our second. He was self-employed at the time.

A week, starting the day 'real' labour started. It was vacation time, but I don't think they counted it all (gave him some extra time)

He took off while I was in the hospital but went back to work the morning after discharge. Really could've used his help at least for a few days at home.

He's in the military and got 10 calendar days of paternity leave! That includes the day I went into labor.

He used 3 weeks vacation. He also gets a full month of paternity leave and is saving that for after I return to work, so we can extend the time before LO has to go into daycare.

One week. But unfortunately it started the night of my induction and we ended up in the hospital Sunday - Friday. So we were home with the baby Saturday and Sunday and he went back to work Monday It was so hard and sad.

He took 6 weeks of vacation and sick time. We both went back to work after that. It was so nice just being together for that time.

I'm 20 weeks and my husband I have been talking about this a lot and I think we finally have a plan! We're both hoping to work right up until delivery.
I'll take 12 weeks of FMLA starting at delivery (I get 5 weeks paid short term disability and should have PTO to cover the rest, so mine will all be paid.
My husband will use vacation/sick days for a full week starting at delivery. Then he'll work just Tuesday and Thursday for the next 3-4 weeks. Then he'll be back to full time and I'll be home alone with baby for another 5 weeks.
Then he's going to take 12 week unpaid FMLA. I think we've decided we'll overlap by 2 weeks so that we can have some time together and we're thinking of doing a trip to my grandmother's condo in Florida. So that'll leave him home alone with baby for 10 weeks after I go back to work.
When his FMLA is up, the kiddo should be 5 months and then we're both back at work full time and kiddo is in daycare.
Whew! The tricky part is that there's no way of knowing when I'll go into labor, so he can't tell his work when, exactly he'll need off. So right now he's planning to schedule off every M, W, F in Sept/Oct because it's easier for him to be able to come in unexpectedly than to be be unexpectedly unavailable. But, all things considered, I think we've got it really good. It boggles my mind that there are still companies out there that pressure dads not to take the FMLA or paternity leave that they are entitled to!

2 weeks paid plus he took every Wednesday off for 3 months. I cried when he went back to work!

He took two weeks off after the birth. He decided to use vacation time for that. Then, just before LO's first birthday he took off two more weeks under FMLA (unpaid).
