DH and I both spend an hour a day and its not enough! He cleans during C's morning nap, and I clean from 9-10 pm. I miss having a clean house!

Probably 30-45 minutes? DH and I are really neat people normally, so that time is spent picking up DD's toys, cleaning the kitchen, loading/emptying the dishwasher... We have a regular cleaning service, so that makes all the difference.

Definitely not 2 hours a day! It's hard to say, because I kind of clean as I go. We use a Roomba on our downstairs floors which helps. Luckily, our house isn't that big and I'm by no means a neat freak. Maybe an hour a day? Most of my time is spent battling dog hair...unsuccessfully.

@rahlyrah: I think it would be cut down by like 75% if DH would pick up after himself as he goes. He leaves EVERYTHING out - shoes, utensils, small appliances, food, you name it. I can't get him in the habit of picking up as he goes since his mom picked up after him his whole life. Makes me stabby!

It totally varies. Maybe 45 minutes to clean up dinner, toys and throw some laundry in at night. We do way more on the weekends which sucks but that's the routine we are in now.

It feels like all day, every day.
I am easily distracted. I'll pick up toys in the living room to put in Chloe's room, see that her room needs picked up, put something from her room in the kicthen and find something in there that needs cleaned.....
If I just focused on one room I bet I'd get so much more accomplished.

Not very much. During the week, after dinner, I only get a couple things out for R to play with. Then after she goes to sleep, I workout, and then I cook and do dishes. I try and get laundry done on the weekends. Cleaning lady comes every other Friday.

@grizz: THIS. And then he complains and says most of the mess is mine. NOPE.
persimmon / 1355 posts
Honestly, not much. I try to keep the kitchen fairly clean and pick up toys (sort of) as we go, but that's about it. I wish I spent more time cleaning during the day so we didn't end up wasting half of our Saturday cleaning.

Man, our house needs way more, but I'd say 15min most days which is mainly putting things up - we are bad about letting dishes pile up. On the weekend probably about 1-2hr each day.

I have a cleaning schedule to help us out (45 mins a day of cleaning with rotations of chores to get everything clean in a week) but mornings are SO difficult to even get to work on time, let alone to a chore or two, and then when I get home I'm just ready to snuggle my baby before he has to go to bed in a couple of hours
And I'm beat.

including laundry and loading/unloading the dishwasher, probably an hour tops.

I have no idea, which is probably explains why there are tumbleweeds of dog fur blowing by me. We are dedicated about keeping our kitchen clean and don't have a dishwasher, so I feel like a lot of energy is put into keeping that one room tidy.

During the week, not at all, I mean, I clean up after dinner, but I am not dusting or vacuuming.
I do a major pick up of stuff on the weekends, takes me about an hour.

Daily, probably abour 1/2 hour. Then I clean the entire house twice a week, which takes a few hours.

Everyday, about an hour. I'm constantly cleaning whether it's dishwasher, laundry, living room, trash, etc.

@Happygal: @rahlyrah: Dog hair is the bane of my existence. Its everywhere!

I feel like I'm constantly picking up and wiping up after A, but I don't do much hard cleaning anymore. I hired a cleaner once a fortnight and she has changed my life. Before I had her I used to clean for a few hours each day of the weekend and it was never enough.

not much? I'll clear my dishes after a meal and do light pick ups but I don't really clean during the week. We clean on the weekends.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
Prob like 15 min per day just tidying up. I usually clean on Sat and that takes me like 1 hour if I focus and push through, 2 hours of I take breaks

@travelgirl1: Our nanny has had experience cleaning houses, and has expressed interest in helping us out if we ever need it! I may have to hire her on a trial basis!

@travelgirl1: Isn't she the best!
We have a cleaner every two weeks. I'd love to have her every week. I figure I spend too much time out of the home during the week to spend my Saturdays with Mr. Clean and not with Mr.Oblivia and BabyOblivia. On a daily basis I just pick up, clean up the kitchen and try to run the Roomba.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@oliviaoblivia: She's at my house right now
@grizz: I can't tell you how much difference it has made to my stress levels and weekends. Although DH thinks our house is actually dirtier now because rather than do a big clean on a weekend we're all "oh well, the cleaner will come on Wednesday". Swings and roundabouts
pineapple / 12566 posts
We have a cleaning lady once per week to actually clean, but I probably spend an hour per day tidying up, doing laundry and cleaning up messes. Like you said, if my DH would just put away his crap instead of leaving it out, I would be wasting a lot less time.

30-40 minutes between dishes, laundry, picking up toys, ect. I do the big cleaning on the weekends, but try to do one room/chore a day. This week it hasn't happened.

Not enough! About an hour a day tidying/cleaning the kitchen. But the vacuum does not get run nearly enough!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: This is exactly my problem!! But I find that if I dedicate time to just "wandering cleaning", I don't get as mad at myself for not getting specific tasks done.
nectarine / 2834 posts
@oliviaoblivia: That is exactly how I rationalized having a cleaning lady when I worked.
Now that I'm home, I feel like I spend most of my down time cleaning...picking up toys, washing bottles, dishes, wiping down highchair, etc. It was easier to clean when we weren't in the house so much!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@grizz: tell DH that a cleaning lady is part of the package for #2!
papaya / 10473 posts
@Smurfette: haha! I will have to add that one too. I have a pretty tall list for him to fulfill to have a second baby!
