DH wasn't at his current job when we had A, so we aren't sure what they offer as far as paternity leave. He thinks it's just a couple of days from what he has heard so far. He is talking to HR soon to figure it out. Last time he had no paid time off, which was quite a burden on us. Thankfully this time he will have at least some vacation/personal time he can use, if nothing else.

Together, Hubs and I get a year, so I am going back to work 6 weeks before 1 year and he's taking the tail end. He took 2.5 weeks vacation when LO was born.

@pinkcupcake: @Bao: It sounds impressive but there is no way he can take that much time. He is one of the top finance people at his firm, so even though he has time off, he isn't allowed to take it.

Nada. DH is starting a new job in December, and will only have 2 days of vacation available.

There was nothing designated for paternity leave, but he used two weeks of PTO, and worked half-days for a week after that.

He took two weeks totally off (paid) and then worked from home for another three weeks.

DH just called on his lunch and he actually doesn't get any paid time off for paternity leave but he can take as much time off as he wants unpaid and they mark it as medical leave. Well we can't afford for him not to work, so I guess he will use his vacation time! At least he has that as an option.

He can take 5 weeks paternity leave, topped up to 95%. BUT he is in a training program right now, and they can only take time off during breaks. So baby is due in March, and he can't take a break until July (he will take all 5 weeks then). Hoping he can use a few days when the baby arrives, but he is really unsure if he can and is stressed about it. I'm not worrying about it yet - my mom will come up and we will manage!

DH's company doesn't offer paternity leave so he'll be using two weeks of his vacation time. He'll be the first and last male in his company to take time off after a birth!

@LovelyPlum: Exactly. He gets 4 weeks per year and he's thinking of taking 5 or 7 days, plus the weekends off so it would be 9-11 days off. Better than nothing!

He took 5 days off (paid). Today is his first day back We're lucky though with the timing because he is a teacher, so he'll work today, tomorrow, Monday, and Tuesday. Then, he'll have Thanksgiving break off, back to work for 3 weeks, and then Christmas break off for 2 weeks. So altogether, he'll have about 3.5 weeks off (paid) in the baby's first 7 weeks.

@Bao: 3 days paid, and he had about 3 weeks of vacation time he could have taken (he didn't). E was born on Wednesday and he went back to work on Monday.

Nada. Dh's job doesn't work in that nature. Me em when he takes time off, he still answers calls and emails from the office and skype meetings

They are allowed up to 1 month paid and 2 months unpaid. He just took the PTO.

@lovehoneybee: Right, I wouldn't want my DH to take all his vacation at once especially since LO will be born in March, he still has 9 months he would need to get through til it started over. If he got sick, or we needed to do something on a day then he would be screwed!

@TurtleDoves: That's what I expect his time off to be like. When we're out of the country they obviously can't call, but when they know he's at home the calls and emails are nonstop.

He gets 3 weeks paid and the option to take 3 unpaid, but he took nothing. We got home from the hospital Thursday and he went to work Friday

Our work doesn't have paternity leave. He took about 1.5 weeks off (sick time, we get a lot) and worked a few days from home. By week 3, I was doing pretty well by myself, plus he was home by 3pm every day

Now that we work at different companies, he can take up to 12 weeks. But, I think he's going to take 3 weeks off - yay!! (he only took one last time)

He unofficially took off about two weeks of work. It's an unofficial thing with his company. I don't think it counted against his PTO.

It's not technically paternity pay, but they will let him take a few vacation days when LO is born. Luckily, with a planned c-section, it'll be easier to work out with work.
When we lost S, his job was amazing and gave him 2 weeks paid off, without taking away any vacation or sick days. He works for a great place.
