How much time off did your DH take when the baby was born?

DH is planning to take around 6 weeks off. Baby's due right around Thanksgiving, so we hope to maximize the holiday time he gets for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. He'll use around 4 weeks vacation and take about 2 unpaid.

@BabyBoecksMom: He can use his sick time???

Hubs took 4 weeks off, but he worked from home at least once a week. He also worked from home 2x/week for another 4 weeks before transitioning back to working out of the house full time. I NEEDED all that time with him because I was a total emotional wreck, haha!

He was only paid for 1, but the person who makes their schedule is old and sweet, she made sure he was off for 3 weeks. It was so nice! I didn't want him to leave!

@Adira: Yes, the company policy is to use all of your accrued vacation time and then and sick time while on FMLA. He gets 3 weeks of vacation and then 4 weeks of sick time total each year.

He took a week and a half (she was born on a Wed) of vacation and worked from home for a week. He could have used FMLA and taken more time but it would have been unpaid and we couldn't afford that.

    None.
But he can mostly work from home.

At this stage, he'll be taking two weeks and then working half days for another week. He works for a small company which is good because he can be flexible with his hours, but bad because he can't take much longer than what we've decided without coming back to mounds of paperwork.

4 days and 2 half days only. He moved jobs halfway through my pregnancy so he didn't have a lot accrued. But I'll take whatever I can get. Luckily my mom took off a week from work to help me too since I can't drive for two weeks.

My DH gets 6-7 weeks paid paternity leave (in addition to his vacation time) when each baby is born.

With #1, he took 6.5 weeks. He will probably do the same for #2.

He works for himself as a carpenter so was only able to take 4 days off (two of which we spent in the hospital). For this next lo (any day now!) he might be able to take a few days off too:) thankfully both times my min had been able to come and stay w us for about a month:)

My husband took three weeks. Used one week "family care" time and two weeks of banked time off.
He took two weeks right away, then my mom came for two weeks and when she left he took another.
I get 17 weeks maternity leave, and then we get 35 weeks to split as we see fit. He's talked about wanting to take the last three months and me go back to work at 9 months, but we'll see.

Only a week, and he used vacation time. Actually it was only 4 days since the fifth day fell on Good Friday. For LO2 he plans to use FMLA and have a week off unpaid.

For my oldest he had a few days. With my twins he had 2 months of FMLA. He was in charge of watchin my oldest while I took care of the twins. With my daughter I think he had 3 weeks but it wasn't consecutive. He had to work some days in between.

6 weeks of FMLA....and he has worked from home every friday since (DS is 5 mo 3 wks).

it was awesome having him at home so we could learn the new parenting stuff together and he could bond with DS. it was one of the best memories we'll have.

He doesn't get any paid leave with his company. He took his vacation week with E so he was born on a Monday and DH was back to work the following Monday. With this one he'll be taking less. We chose to use his (only) vacation week over the summer to take a good, family vacation so that we could get some quality time as a family of 3 before DD arrives. Soooo all the time he takes off when she's born will be unpaid. It depends on what day of the week she arrives but we're planning on him taking 2ish days off- 3 tops.

6 weeks unpaid. Killed our savings but it was worth it for the bonding time.

The military gives 10 days. DH ended up getting 3 weeks because I was in and out of the hospital.

I think he took 8 weeks off. It sounds like a lot, but he's entitled to a whole lot more. He has co-workers that take a whole year off and I used to think that was crazy long. If we're ever crazy enough to do it again, I'm demanding at least 6 months!
