My first was born 8lbs and lost a whole pound in the hospital.
DS2 was 8lbs 10oz and only lost 6oz. This time my milk came in before I left the hospital though.

Ds went from 7lbs 10oz to 7lbs 4oz I think? Dd went from 7lbs 12oz to 7lbs 6oz. My milk came in very quickly for both.

I'm pretty sure both of mine lost just over the 10% but they were large babies. Their sugar levels were monitored and they had zero jaundice. It took both almost three weeks to gain back.

@T.H.O.U.: this one had sugar levels monitored because of his size and also had no jaundice but my first born was a little jaundiced.

She was down 5oz when we left the hospital and had gained it back plus another ounce or two by her first pediatrician appointment when she was 4 days old.

My second LO lost 10oz, but he was born at 9lbs. He started regaining weight before we left the hospital though. He had sugar level monitored due to birth weight and did have jaundice, but it cleared without treatment.

DS was 7lbs1oz when born and by the time we left he was down to 6lbs 12oz. I forget with DD but she nursed much better and more frequently than DS so she prob lost less

He was 7 12 and when we left I think 7 3... So he lost 9 ounces.

Ds1- From 5 lb 5 oz to 4 lb 13 oz.
DS2- from 5 lb 6 oz to 5 lb even.
My milk came in 4 days with my first and I think 3 with my second, though I definitely had colostrum earlier with my second.

He lost over 10%. Born at 7 lbs 11 oz and came home at 6lbs 6oz. My milk took 5 days to come in. He didn't start gaining until he was 6 days old. We went in for weight checks every other day for almost 2 weeks. It was rough.

DS had jaundice and was supplemented in NICU and he still lost like 11% and we had to go in for weight checks for like two weeks. But my milk didn't come in for like a week and we were supplementing with formula once or twice a day. Turned out I had low supply.

I think a lb and a half? Kind of scary but he was a large baby (9lbs 9 oz) and we had a delayed BF relaionship. We supplemented with pumped BM until he made birth weight

Both my girls lost 12%. Scary, but they were very big and had some chub to spare. They were both back up by ten days.
eggplant / 11287 posts
My first lost 1 pound, 3 oz. So a lot more than 10% (she was born at 7 lbs, 13 oz). Other than an extra weight check or two, docs weren't concerned.
My second lost 6 oz (she was born at 8 lbs, 9 oz).
My third lost 8 oz (she was born at 7 lbs, 3 oz).

Mine were never weighed in be hospital since I stayed less than 12 hours both times. But both of them lost about 10% of their body weight I think and weren't huge to begin with (DS 6 lbs 15 oz, DD 6 lbs 7 oz). I never supplemented and just put them to the breast tons to help my milk come in.

His first weight was 7 lbs 9 oz but I swear it was with a hat! No one believes me on that one but I remember watching thinking that's weird why would they do that? When we left hospital he was down to 6lbs 12 oz. we had to come back for extra weight checks the two following days.

Dd -8oz (had trouble gaining weight and plateaued for a couple days. She had a tongue tie)
DS- 4oz I think he nursed around the clock that first night and my milk came in faster

DS: 8lb 12oz to 8lb 4oz
DD: 7lb 12oz to 7lb 2oz
My milk came in within 2.5 days both times, abs they were both back to birth weight by their 1 week appointments.

He was born 8 lbs 5 oz, and he lost 4 or 5 oz by the time we went home. It took another day or two for my milk to come in, so 4 days total.

She lost a full pound in the first 48 hours. She wasn't very big to begin with, and we had some nursing complications, so I ended up supplementing. I was able to breastfeed over a year, though, so it all worked out!
nectarine / 2288 posts
She was born at 8 lbs and left at 7lbs 10 oz. I'm guessing she was back to birth weight at less than a week old but she didn't get weighed til after that at her 2 week appt

Bf'd both in the hospital.. I don't remember the exact amount but I think dd (first baby) was close to the 10% mark and ds (second baby) was around 6%. This despite ds being the sleepy one!

LO1 went from 8lb 13oz to 8lb 2oz.
LO2 went from 8lb 3oz to 7lb 10oz.
grapefruit / 4418 posts
I think around 10 oz. she was 6-14 at birth and I want to say she left around 6-4.
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
T was born at 8lbs 9oz but weighed 8lbs 1oz when we left on day 3. Pretty dang good considering he was pretty puffy with fluids when he came out, so most of that weight had to have been lost fluid.
pomelo / 5258 posts
LO1 didn't lose weight. She was 6lb10oz and gained a tenth of an ounce her first night. It was a long labor and she already passed meconium before she was born. LO2 lost two tenths of an ounce. He was 7lbs 5oz. Both times the nurses were in disbelief at the lack of weight loss and rechecked several times.
grapefruit / 4321 posts
I don't remember with LO1 but it was very little. She was above birth weight at her 4 day check up. LO2 was born at 6.4, left the hospital at 5.14, and was down to 5.8 (12% of body weight) at his 4 day check. And he was pretty jaundiced. But my milk had only just come in that morning. So we turned around the weight loss but it still took him 3 weeks to get back to birth weight. He has a crappy latch and reflux so we've had some struggles.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
I have a note on my phone with the exact numbers but I know it was more than 10%. At 5 days she was still losing weight, very dehydrated, and my milk hadn't come in so we began supplementing and we supplemented for her first year. I also nursed for 19 months.
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
DD1 was born 6lb9oz and was 6lb2oz when we left.
DD2 was born 6lbs even and was 5lbs8oz when we left.
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
1 pound. My milk wasn't coming in and we were having major problems latching, so they had us supplementing before we even left. I have mixed feelings about that, but she needed to be fed and quit losing weight, so it is what it is.
