How often do you get family photos done? I'm thinking about doing them once a year! DH and I have been married for 4 years and have never gotten them done, but now that we have a LO I think I want to start! Also I think fall pictures are going to be the time too each year that way we can use them for Christmas cards!!

Professionally? The last time we did was when I was pregnant with LO #1 about 3.5 years ago. We take a family picture when visiting family during Thanksgiving and Christmas and use those for cards. I'm hoping to get a professional one taken after we move since we'll be closer to our family photographer.

DS is 3 and so far we have had professional pics taken 4x's since he was born. I have another session set up for this weekend and I hope to be able to do them annually, as you are thinking.

We've never had pro family photos done. All the ones I like, locally, are too expensive.

I am terrible at family photos, we just had a mini session this year, the last time we had one was when my son was 8 months old, he's almost 5 now.
I have made peace with the fact that i just need one good photo, so I try to find mini sessions or fundraisers, they're typically inexpensive.

I love the idea of once a year, but the ones I like are so expensive. So we did some before LO1's first Christmas, and we are doing a newborn/ family session after LO2 is born in December. After that I think I will try to take advantage of mini sessions more. Most photographers around here offer them in the fall because fall in New England is amazing and it's perfect Christmas card timing.

@psw27: ha exactly! The newborn family session is my big Christmas/ anniversary / new baby present. After this hopefully I can find a decent photog to do a half hot mini session occasionally.

We've been doing them once a year since LO #1 was born. Lots of photographers offer good mini session pricing in the fall, so we've been taking advantage of that. We use the pics for Christmas cards then, too. We just did our yearly session yesterday.

We are having ours done for the first time this weekend. DS will be about 8 months. I'll probably do a small shoot with just him for when he turns 1 and then once a year family pictures after that.

Once a year since ds1's birth in 2012. this year we just combo'ed our family shoot with ds2's nb session.

@Foodnerd81: I love the lady who did our newborn photos but I feel like she's still kind of pricey for fall. I should check into it more... another thing to spend money on!!

We do them once a year, usually in the fall for Christmas cards. The family photog I LOVE is too expensive for us, but I found her on LivingSocial two years ago, and my dad gifted us a session last year. I did find another photographer I like, and she charges $30 for mini sessions, so I think we're going with her this year.

We did professional ones when M turned a year. I'm thinking we'll do them again next fall - she'll be almost 4 and baby bro will be about 7 mo.

Look for new-ish photographers and mini sessions. I can normally get a 30 mini session with rights for $100 but I searched forever for a good photographer with decent pricing

I aim for once a year, and like you, preferably in the fall so I can use them for our holiday cards! Speaking of which, I need to schedule one soon. It's almost November!! Eek!!

We just had pictures done yesterday!!! DS1 was born in the November so we have done newborn, 6 month and then every year after that. DH and I jumped in on a few of his so that we get a family shot as well. It also worked out that we could use them for Christmas cards. Now with DS2, we also did newborn and will do 6 months in December and then his 1 year shots. After that, I think we'll just do a mini session every Oct/Nov.
We only did professional shots once as a family growing up and I wish we had done more. I've found a great photographer that does 30 min mini sessions and will give 10 pics with rights for a little over $100. My friend's husband in a photog too so we've used him as well.

Like once every 18 months to 2 years. We did them in November 2012, then September 2014, and are doing them again in March of 2016.

We just had them done for the first time in 5 years yesterday. I'm hoping for once a year to once every two years now that we have a LO.

We had them done with a pro photographer when LO was 6 months old. Then we went to picture people last year for Christmas photos. We will probably do picture people again this year and then when I get pregnant again we will do a family/maternity shoot with a pro photographer.

My MOPS group does a photo fundraiser so we get family pictures once a year. We get a photographer to offer mini sessions in a park near our church and it's awesome!! I also usually do silly Father's Day pictures of just the kids

I try for 2x a year. One of my besties is an amazing photographer so we just do something casual with her.

2x a year. We trade with @littlejoy for one session and hire a favorite photographer 1x a year.
