The oscars threads got me thinking... we haven't seen ANY of the movies that are up for awards because most of them aren't on DVD yet! We never go to the movies, so we don't see a movie until it's at least year old likely! Maybe we should try to do that more this year

We only go a couple times per year. We rent every once in a while, but I generally fall asleep when I try to watch a movie! I have t seen any of the major nominees either.

We try to make it a point to go once a year but we haven't been since 12/2012!

Maybe 2x a year? Only if our parents are in town to babysit for free. I don't want to pay a sitter $20/hour just to go see a movie!

I only go when my niece and nephew visit us and it's been a long time! The last movie watched at the theatre was The Hobbit. My DH likes to buy the DVDs and also download the digital copy to our iTunes account.

I think I went 3 times in 2013. It's crazy expensive here for the cinema so I don't think it's worth it.

@Andrea: aye yai!! I cannot believe how much people pay for babysitters in some areas of the - that is more than I make at my JOB!!
Thankfully babysitters here are MUCH cheaper.

Before LO, once a month! The last movie I saw in a theater was Hunger Games...during the last week of my first maternity leave!

@Andrea: I nannyed for a family that did a date night "share". They took their friends kids for one evening a month, and then their friends took their kids for one evening a month. It meant that they each got a monthly date night without having to pay for babysitting - and the kids get a playdate!
If I knew more families with kids, I might do that.

We go about once a month. Sometimes once every other month. My wife gets free admission because her dept does detail for the theatre. And we don't have kids yet so we gotta go before we cant!

@MrsH: hahaha I had to crack up at that. I have never heard of someone stopping at the theatre for popcorn.
@Fronkinzankinsbride: that is a sweet deal! I would go a lot more if we had a deal like that.

I miss going to the movies. Although, DH and I never pick it as a date night activity anymore, because we would rather do something that gives an opportunity to talk and reconnect a bit.

It's been years since I went to a movie theater. I honestly can't remember the last time I went. It's just so darn expensive!

The last time I went to a movie was last May to see The Great Gatsby! We have not gone since LO was born. I don't foresee that changing any time soon.

@Mrs. Pen: For a single adult ticket at the nearest cinema it's $17.50. That's the cheapest cinema in town too.

3-4 times a month. We go to an early bird showing and pay $5 a ticket.

Since DD was born we've seen 1-2 per year. We see one at Thanksgiving b/c we stay w/ my aunt, and she is happy to watch DD while we go to a movie. This year we also saw one over our Christmas break while DD still had daycare.

Once a year if we're lucky. We still have discounted tickets that we bought from DH's work about 4 years ago.

I haven't been to a movie since before my LO was born.

We used to go whenever we visited my parents because they love movies and the local theater is so cheap ($5 and $3.50 for matinee!), but we haven't seen any since LO was born. I've considered going to a mommy matinee, but don't think LO will sleep through it now.

Maybe once every six months. It's just way too expensive. I'm extra mad now that a large popcorn and pop cost $20 with NO refills! That's just daylight robbery and the movies without popcorn sucks.

I said "never" because I haven't been since before P was born. Before that we used to go like once or twice a month. How things change...
Thankfully babysitters here are MUCH cheaper.
