Martha says to do it every 2 weeks! I do it when it starts falling apart, and I use this awesome sponge which is the best sponge ever and it lasts forever:

I do run it through the dishwasher or microwave to disinfect it, but apparently not often enough.... martha says to do it every other day!
How often do you clean/replace your sponges?

I replace as soon as it looks grimy but I only clean it by washing it. I guess thats not enough?

We don't use a sponge but we have a brush thing for pots/pans and I haven't replaced it in a long time but I run it through the dishwasher once a week. I should really replace it.

I buy sponges in bulk at Costco and switch them out every month. I throw them in the dishwasher every night or every other. I used to do the microwave thing but now I feel icky about it.... Dishwasher is much easier anyway!

DH tends to leave the sponges in the dishwater and they sour. He doesn't care but I do so I'm throwing them out a lot. Of course, ours are the cheapest kind since he can't seem to take care of the sponge (I use a dishrag). We don't have a dishwasher.

I'm on the biweekly plan. Sponges gross me out but I need the scrubby side that you just can't get with a brush or rag.

I have the same sponge as you and absolutely love it! I've used it for many months now and haven't tossed it yet. It seems to be in pristine condition still. Guess I could work better at disinfecting it though.
Prior to this sponge, I'd toss them as soon as they started to smell or was falling apart/looked gross which was every other week?

Whoops, I probably go months!! I mostly use it to wash the knives and pots since we use the dishwasher for everything else. It still looks brand new after just 2 weeks, I'd feel so wasteful if I replaced it that often.

When DH runs the dishwasher he throws the sponge in to clean it. I change the sponge when the back green part gets to soft and ratty to scrub.

about every month or so..I tried the microwave once and the sponge sparked! it was the basic one too, no scrubby side. no idea what went wrong there!
we don't have a dishwasher either, which stinks.

I replace it when I feel it looks like it's time to replace it. I buy cheap sponges from the dollar store, so I have no trouble replacing them as soon as I don't think they're good anymore.
I've never put a sponge in the dishwasher. I just ring it out and put it on my counter beside the sink when I'm done cleaning.
I guess I'm unsanitary. Oh well.

@sorrycharlie: did u put the sponge in a dish of water when you microwaved?
I replace mine when they start to get smelly. I don't microwave them as much as I should though.
