Since my husband left for Asia back in June my oldest has been whining NON-STOP! It's like ALL DAY LONG. Seriously. It is soooooooooo annoying after a while. First he whines about something and then comes the tears...and it's not the soft crying kind. It's the screaming fit crying b/c he's not getting what he wants. And it's about EVERYTHING. I know, lots of all caps, but it's gotten that bad! LOL! I started to set rules like if he whines or cries he goes to his room until he is done. So far, he hasn't been sent to his room, yet, but I've given him warnings and he'll stop for a bit. Then he starts again about something else. And now I'm just threatening to take one favorite toy away when he does it for unimportant reasons. If your kid(s) whine all day long like mine, what do you do and what has worked for you? What hasn't? I need to put an end to this whining... I'd rather sit on another 25-hour plane ride with both of my boys than to hear him whine again b/c I don't think he whined one time during our trip here.

We eventually just started pretending not to understand him when he whined... it really helped him learn that the best way to get what he wanted was to ask in a regular voice.
Before we tried that, we tried a lot of bribes and threats and they just didn't work for us!

We just firmly state that that's not the right way to ask, and ask that he ask nicely. If he continues to whine we ignore him and keep stating that he won't get a response until he asks nicely. We are lucky in that he follows directions well so eventually he does stop. If he continues with a bad attitude it's straight to time out.

If my son whines, I cover my ears and say "Ouch! That's too loud. I can't hear what you're saying! Please stop whining and speak nicely.". For some reason, that seems to work for us! Actually it works on my daughter too and she's 14 months old. I think the physical gesture of covering my ears and looking like I'm not enjoying it (and can't hear them!) really gets the point across with them.

my 17 month old whines a lot I do ignore her mostly and then she gives up

We went through about a month of whining. She was affected from her needles and was gettingher molars so it was a rough phase. We tried to ignore her when she whined. If she 'asked' nicely we gave her what she needed. I cannot stand whining!
