He was 14 months old (it was our anniversary). Shockingly, it was one of the first times he STTN!

I'd just make sure your parents are aware of his sleep (or lack thereof, if they're not already) so they're not taken by surprise.

DS was 5 months when we left him with my parents for 1 night when I was in the ER with rotovirus, otherwise we probably still would not have left him overnight (he is 12.5 months now). He varies between 1 and 5 wake ups a night and as much as I'd love to have a night away I just can't put that burden on anyone.

We went away (30 min drive) on Valentine's day last year, when DS was 12 weeks. The ONLY reason it happened was because he STTN 12 hours the night before for the first time! My mom came over and stayed at our house too. Otherwise I wouldn't have felt comfortable.

We have done a couple of overnights since then (DS is 13.5 months now) with all of them being at our house except the last one being at my mom's and he slept well there.

I don't think I would've gone 'til DS sleep schedule was more predictable. But my mom would've forced me to enjoy time with DH and insisted too!

Just wanted to add, that's so sweet of your DH to plan something like that!!

DD - 18 months
DS - 5 weeks

I think it was something like almost 2 years old, but it wasn't a fun night out, it was so we could power pack our apartment!

She was 2 months but she STTN early.

I would totally go - you so so deserve it ! Your parents won't mind one night of wake ups. I always feel bad for my mom when she watches Dd if DD is fussy but my mom always assures me she loves to watch LO no matter the mood and she also likes knowing she is giving me a break.

20 months and haven't had one yet...

I am hopeful we will have one this winter. I would really, really like to take a night away with DH.

2 months and she was STTN. It was for like 10 hours. MIL took her so we could get a full nights sleep.

@grizz: If your Mom is anything like my Mom, it breaks her heart hearing you cry. She can't fix the sleep issues so this is the only way that she can help. Let her!!

@grizz: I think your parents will be FINE. Honestly, dealing with night wake ups is much easier when you know it's just one night. Enjoy the time away with your hubs. C and your parents will survive, I promise.

6 months and we left for a 4 day vacation. He might surprise you, and sleep fine for her! My son always sleeps better when we are away for the night. I would just make sure your parents know his sleeping isn't the best and that they are ok with it.

DS will be almost 7 months old when we spend the weekend away from him. He'll be staying with my parents and they have already hired help for during the day. I'm nervous about being away from him, but I figure this is something we all have to deal with eventually as parents. At some point we'll all have to trust someone else not only to care for our LO's, but also to be selfless enough to have their routines disrupted for a short amount of time.

I haven't done it yet, but I think you and C will be fine! Your parents know what they are in for, and what they are doing (they raised you, after all). Doing it for one night is a lot different than 6 months.

That said.... I haven't even had anyone beside me and DH put my LO down for a nap, much less bed time! The only family we have nearby, therefore the only person who sees her on a really regular basis, is my BIL, who is great, but he's your typical 28 yo single guy. He is great at playing with her but not really a diaper changing, putting down to bed kind of babysitter. We have left her a total of 3 times-- once with DH's grandmother while C was napping, for like, 1 hour; once for a couple of hours with MIL over Christmas, when MIL gave her a bottle (first one not from me or DH!), but when she tried to put her down for a nap she freaked out; once with MIL after C was down for bed for the night. It's a combination of control issues on my part and lack of opportunity anyway.

How sweet of your husband! It sounds like a well deserved break on your part -- and since you fully trust your parents, that much the better!

We'll be leaving our (then) 8 mo DS next month for 4 nights/5 days with my parents and while I'm nervous (despite knowing they'll take just as good of care of him as I would...), I know the break will make me an even better mom to C once we get back because of the rest and relaxation. I also know the time away will be great for DH and I's relationship. I'd encourage you to enjoy the time away, try not to stress, and relax with a full night's sleep. You deserve it.

Dude- go. I'm jealous. And if you think you won't be able to sleep, take something. Enjoy your time away, relish in the sleep. If your parents know what they're in for, its fine. It might be a tough night for him/them, but you need a break and deserve it. And everyone will survive. Think about how nice it will be for you & hubs to reconnect, alone!

DS was 16 months when we left him overnight. I would not have been ready much sooner than that.
