does it vary differently with boys/girls? or is it just random?

charlie said his first word just before turning 1 -- ball. then he said mama between 12-13 months. he added one word at a time, then had a word explosion around 15 months? i have to look back at my monthly updates.
girls usually talk faster than boys.

Thanks Mrs.Bee! I was worried about my LO because his vocabulary is limited, and I feel like kids his age are far more advanced. He is 14 months and knows mom, dad, ball, up, and a few more. Poor kid is exposed to so many "b" words, and it easily confuses him.

Lala said her first word at 8 months (hi). She began to add words slowly after that.

My son is 16 months and only recently started saying "oh" (as in uh oh or oh no). He'll parrot "dada" but doesn't use it himself. He also says "yeah". He is considered watch-list behind with his verbal development because at his 15 month well check he didn't say any words other than parroting "dada".

my first DD's meaningful word was around 15 months... "up" (when she wanted to be carried). I think that's around the time most kids start with words and they should start to put two words together before or around 2 yo. My first DD ended up having a speech delay though and went to speech therapy at 2.
my second DD has been saying "mama" since a little before 10 months... wasn't sure she knew what it meant at first, but at 11 months, I'm pretty sure she knows. She says it when I walk away or when I enter a room. It's so cute!! I'm hoping she is on the right track with speech.

I have a chatty one on my hands. She started saying Teddy (our dog's name) at around 8 months. At first I thought it was just noises but she specifically says it when she looks at him. She is 10.5 months now and says Daddy, Mama, Teddy/Ted, Hi and doggie.

Lo said umma, appa, hi and mam-ma (her word for llama) before she turned 1. She slowly started picking words up and now can point out and say over 20 words. Her favorites currently are ball, mung mung (dog in Korean), nana (banana) and ddah-dda (ddalgi-strawberry)
I have strawberries on my leggings and she loves pointing to them and saying ddahdda! I think she has a knack for languages.
