I was also a teacher and dealt with kids who couldn't see on a regular basis. I would send the kids to the nurse when we had one or make the call to the parents to tell them their son or daughter was having trouble seeing.
If and when they came to school wearing glasses I would take them aside and ask them how it was going and ask them what it was like when they first put them on and then I would tell them the first day would be the hardest and it would get easier with each passing day and within a few days nobody would care that they were wearing glasses. It usually helped ease their fears a bit.
