I see children with cell phones and it kills me. I got my first cell phone when I was 23 years old (this was 7-8 years ago).

I got one freshman year of college... so that would be 1999. I had a part time job and hid it from my parents... when I went home for breaks I'd charge it under my bed. I was the FIRST in my year to have one. Some sophomores and up had them. It was a one-line display Ericsson flip phone with Cellular One. I had a badtz maru thing hanging off of it. I was definitely the coolest EVER.

21 - when I moved from Maryland to GA. Before that, I had one for emergencies only that my mom and dad paid for. It wasn't really mine so, I don't count it.

20. I got it a week after Sept. 11th because I couldn't reach my family after the attacks. Gosh, haven't thought about those days in a while.

I was 15 (in 10th grade) when I got my first cell phone. I'm only on my 4th one ever now and I'm 22.
My little cousin has wanted one for the past 2 years and he is in the 3rd grade!! He takes his dad's droid around everywhere he goes and it drives me nuts! He's always shoving it in my face trying to show me some video...I want to be like "Just be a kid for a little while longer, please!"

I got a nokia, the one a lot of people had with the faceplates you could change, for the 15th birthday. I think I had like 2 numbers stored & I lost it under the seat of my dads car from a couple months & wasn't bothered...if that happened today I'd be bothered immediately! I didn't really start using a cell phone until I was driving.

@tina: LMBO @ Cellular One!
I was 19, when I went to college. One that didn't even flip.LOL

I had one when I was 16. I actually shared the phone with my parents, and I mainly used it to call my dad to pick me up after school. I know it's too early to say, but I don't want my LO to have a cell phone at a young age.

I was 19 (sophomore year in college). I was one of the last among my friends. They kept telling me to get one since they couldn't get a hold of me if I wasn't in my dorm room!

I was 15 and a sophomore in high school. My parents got cell phones, and it was cheap to just add my brother and me on to the plan. Plus, it was my first year in public school, and my dad was convinced I would need the phone for emergencies. I had the customizable Nokia--with a baby blue, sparkly face plate and crystal buttons.

32 maybe? I was what you call a late adopter. Now I can't live without the damn thing!

I was 24--i think this was in 2004. I graduated college in '01 and almost no one i had phones. Then i lived abroad for two years and when i came back everyone had one. So i guess i was sort of a late adopter too...

I was 16.
I was in band and we'd all go out after the games. My parents gave me a curfew.... and I never followed it. I would always get home late. Of course I got yelled at, but that's it. And then one day again I came home late and woke up expecting to get yelled at, again. Instead, I woke up to a cell phone. They wanted me to have it so when I was out late they could at least call me and I could call them and they'd know where I was.

I was either 12-13. It was 8th grade. But I swear, of my friends and classmates I was one of the very last. And I had a big bulky phone while everyone else has those little Nokias. Haha, my mom said that the guy at Verizon said they were cool!

Yep, same with Rubies. I didn't get one until I left college so around 22.

My parents gave my sister and I a cell phone to share when she started driving us to school. It stayed with the car and was for emergencies. I still have the same phone number to this day

I was 12 in the 6th grade, my grandma wanted me to have it in case of emergencies (My mom had just passed away and at the time I couldn't get a hold of anyone after school that day...) It was an ugly one but it's not like I had it to sit in class and text or go on facebook! Nobody had one at the time, which why DO you in the 6th grade?! lol

Seven years ago. I was 16, in high school, and able to drive legally by myself. My sister had been harassing my parents for awhile about getting one and my mom finally gave in with the condition that she had to pay for it herself. She also agreed to let me get one if I paid for it and my dad was M.A.D!! He didn't see the point in me having one. Naturally he was (and still is!) the person who calls me the most. He calls me every morning on my drive to work and every night when I'm sitting at home just to check in. I think it's cute.

Freshman year of HS I think. Long commute to school so it was peace of mind for my Mom with us checking in with her and for after school sports and what not too!
