I mean out of the house away from LO for more than 5 mins?
How long until you had a few hours/night out away from him/her?
How long until you and DH had your first date night after LO was born?

When M was 3 and 5 weeks old, I spent a week in the hospital (two separate weeks) for gall stones. M stayed with my mom most nights with D. Since then I haven't been away from M for more than an hour.

Outside if the house without LO in the first week; overnight alone at 12 weeks.
First date night was at, I think, 3 weeks or 5 weeks. Something like that.

She was born on Monday and Sat I went to get more diapers and lunch and was gone an hour. She was two and half weeks old when my Mom came over and DH and I went to dinner and Target for like an hour and half.

Day 3 I went to target.
At two weeks we went to lunch for like and hour or so.
Quick pizza and drinks at two months.
At about 14 weeks we went to a wedding which was the first significant time away.

Day six I went to the pharmacy for 40 minutes.
First date night was ten months.
First overnight away hasn't happened yet, she's 19 months.

With in the first week I had a Dr appointment I went to solo, I also went to the bank and target for necessities. Overnight she was 4.5 months old.

I went grocery shopping at 4 weeks. Haven't been away from him overnight and he is 6 months old.

First target trip - 2 weeks in.
First date (afternoon) - six months.
First overnight - Hoping at close to a year we can get away for a night (would stay in town at a fancy hotel). Right now she at 7 months still sleeps in bed with us, and wakes up often to night nurse, so she is pretty non babysittable at night for the moment.

Out of the house away from LO for more than 5 mins? Probably 5 weeks
How long until you had a few hours/night out away from him/her? Night out is different. Probably 4 months
How long until you and DH had your first date night after LO was born? Same as above 4 months. I would say our first real, worry free date night was at 7 months.
My first overnight away: 5 months for a work trip
DH & Me overnight away : 16 months (last weekend)
We have no local family and for the first 5.5 months, I had no help. DH works long hours and she was a tough newborn, so I didn't feel comfortable getting a babysitter until she was sleeping through the night consistently.

I ran to Target when she was almost two weeks old. But I'm only two minutes from the store and was only gone 10-15 minutes. She slept in my husband's arms the whole time I was gone.
Then today, my sister and BIL took her for a walk for about an hour so that my husband and I could nap. She barely slept last night, which meant that neither did we. She's three and a half weeks.

My 6 week pp check was the first time I had a few hours away. First date night hasn't happened yet... I have super reliable babysitters ready to take her, I just haven't taken them up on yet it. First night away probably won't happen until she's much, much older. She's 21 months.

Day 8 I left her home with her dad while I went to a doc appt. I did most doc appts alone. First "date" at 5 weeks when we went to a movie (straight there and back). I had my first girls night at maybe 8 weeks or so. I've never left her for more than 3 hrs now at 13 weeks. First time I do that will prob be when I have to shoot a wedding around 18 wks old. Will be a whole day gone

@Mrs tartan: she was about three weeks old when my parents watched her while we went to a hockey game. I wasn't ready but thought I was. We left the game early!
She was closer to 6 or 7 weeks when I had to go into work to train the person replacing me (they hired a replacement who quit after five weeks!).

I think around 2 weeks DH and I left him with my mom for less than an hour while we went to lunch. First date night was 4 weeks.

First time away from lo was 4 weeks when I did a quick grocery trip to get baby wipes.
First date night was 7 months
Haven't spent the night away from her yet - she's 23 months

Hmm I don't know - we nursed pretty much around the clock so first time without her for a few hours, maybe at 4 or 5 months. First date night, haha ummm 15 months? I've never spent a night away from her at 18 months and wouldn't at least until we wean.

Well, E had to stay in the hospital so...right away? At 6 weeks, DH and I started in a weekly work softball league for a couple hours and we had a sitter. First overnight, otherwise, was 6 months and our first date night was about when she was a month old.

Hmmmm.... with #1 our first date night was either at 2 or 3 weeks.
With #2, I don't remember our first date night, but I know that I went black Friday shopping 3 days after she was born. and then went out on a girls night (like, 8 - 11) after she was born.

30 mins for groceries at 6 weeks (too soon!), an hour a week for a fitness class at 5 months, and first date night is tonight! Just dinner, 6 months.

Lo was in the nicu so we were in and out of his room for that week. Once we came home, i went to get a pedicure with a friend, maybe a week later? Once i could drive i would run errands a couple times a week and leave him with dh. It never occured to me to not do this...he is just as much his parent as i am, and he certainly didnt need both of us all the time.
Our first date night was when he was around one month old. A close friend kept him for us overnight, from around 5pm until about 10 the next morning.
I am so glad we did stuff like this early on....I feel like the longer i had waited the harder it would have been.

I think our first date was when she was 3 months old. At 2 months pp I went to the store by myself. But she nursed ALL the time, so it didn't become a regular thing until maybe 9-10 months?
pomegranate / 3729 posts
6 months was when we had our first date night and when I left her with DH for a girls dinner (2 hours door to door). She screamed the whole time. I was away semi overnight when she was about 20 months old (went to a concert and came back around 4 or 5am and she woke up with DH)

First date at just over 2 weeks when my mom came to visit. First girls night out at four weeks when my best friends came to visit. Haven't had an overnight yet. He's 5 months.

I went to the grocery store by myself when she was 5ish days old... Gone for 30 minutes?
Our first "date night" was when she was 7 or 8 months old.
Our first night away was when LO was almost a year, but we picked her up first thing the next morning. We have never been away longer than that. We are in desperate need of another night (or two!) away!
blogger / persimmon / 1225 posts
First time away was a quick errand for about 20 min at 2 weeks-ish old.
Today I was gone for 1.5 hours shopping with my mom, I left right after a feeding and came back within two hours just in case he was hungry. He's 3.5 weeks. Will probably end up leaving for longer once we start pumping and making bottles.

At a week old we had to interview a daycare so left her home with my mom then went and got dinner after. It was so nice to be out of the house! We went on our first real date night when she was a month old for our one year anniversary dinner. It was still pretty short though. At 5 months we went away for a good 8 hours to a concert and was the first time we weren't there for bed time. We may have our first overnight in a few weeks at 6 months for a wedding. Still undecided though since we have the option of bringing her. We will see how she's doing sleep wise when it's closer since she's been sleeping pretty poorly the past two weeks.

When he was 6 weeks old we went out with some friends for the evening and my little brother babysat.
When he was about 4-5 months old my mom babysat and we had a day date.
At 15 months my mom watched him overnight and we went out overnight for our anniversary.

Lo1-day 4 to target to run in and get stuff (I totally underestimated my pain level, I nearly passed out in the store)
Lo2-day 4 to go to the pharmacy and grocery store
First overnight from lo1 was in hospital with lo2. Have never been away from both kids.

@Mrs tartan: my mom and in laws stayed with us the first week home from the hospital and I went to get a pedicure day 3, to a movie day 6, and some trips to the store the week after. Our first real date night was 2 months after she was born since both of our parents live far away....we went to dinner at a nice place for our anniversary while a friend from the city babysat. We still havent found a good paid babysitter sadly so we rarely go anywhere without LO unless we go one at a time.
(I am on a girls' vacation now for 4 days while Dh and LO are home and LO is 13 months )

Away <1 hour at one week dr appointment, date night at 6 months, overnight away when Baby Brother was born at 20 months. With my second it has been pretty much never except for date night on our anniversary. Obviously we don't have family around...

LO was in the nicu so unfortunately we were separated some from the very beginning. We've been home two months and I have left him with DH maybe twice to get groceries. No date nights without him yet and neither of us feel ready.

I had a doctor's appointment for about an hour when DS was 5 days old. He stayed with DH. At about 4 months DH and I went to the movies while my MIL babysat. He's currently 19 months and I haven't spent a night away from him yet.

@Mrs. Lion: "I am so glad we did stuff like this early on....I feel like the longer i had waited the harder it would have been."
Totally agree with what you said above!! My LO is 26 months now and my husband and I agree it's harder to leave her overnight now than it was at 12 weeks - she's so much more fun, haha so glad we got the first "aways" out of the way early so it's not an unknown anymore.
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
Well she was in the nicu so I was away very early.... but waited 8 months before I left her again. We went to the movies

First trip, about an hour to pick up groceries, was 3 weeks after LO was born.
First date night was at 5 weeks for hubby's 30th birthday.
No overnights away from her yet (she's 19 months). The first time will probably be when I'm in the hospital with LO 2 (not currently pregnant)!

LO was about 1 week old when I went nursing bra shopping & for a mani pedi with my mom. About 2-3 hrs. That was a sad day. I had not bonded to her truly yet & nursing was so hard. I remember wishing I didn't have to go home and then feeling so guilty
Then at 3 weeks postpartum I went to book club so I was gone about 4 hours but she was asleep for most of it.
We went on an all-day date when LO was 3.5 months. We were gone I think 6-7 hours & I pumped in the car!
Then I went back to work when she was 6 months & started being away from her for 7-8 hours 2-3 days per week. Until them I was hardly ever away from her except for monthly book club which is my girls night that I really look forward to.
And we recently left her overnight at 9 months. We were gone 4 nights. It was SO hard! I totally agree it gets much harder as they get older & more aware & more fun.

First solo trip out is the house was around 6 weeks for groceries. I was gone for 45 mins. We still haven't left her for a date night or overnight since she's just now taking a bottle at 4.5 months.
grapefruit / 4291 posts
I ducked out to run short errands or walk the dog while LO was sleeping from about two weeks old but we still haven't spent a night apart at 22 months. We've been doing the odd date night since LO was 4-5 months old and I would be comfortable leaving LO with our parents if the need arose.
