I haven't run into this for DD's name, but I ran into it ALL the time (still do) for my name. Everyone wants to put a "y" at the end instead of "ie", and it drove me nuts for the longest time. It took me 25ish years to finally come to terms with it and realize that they'll eventually figure out they're spelling it wrong.

My name gets mispelled all the time so I am used to it, so I don't really care if they get my son's name wrong.

I ignore it, it only happens rarely for me.

My name has an "e" at the end yet people always want to put an "a" there instead. Sometimes I correct them, sometimes I don't. My daughter's name is somewhat hard to spell if you don't know the spelling, so I'll be a bit lenient with that.

My name has two spellings. It doesn't really bother me when people use the other spelling. I ignore it. So when people misspell my kids I usually just ignore it. The only one people mess up is Lilly. A lot of people spell it Lily (which I found out after naming her that one l is the more common way to spell it, oops should have done my research)

Eh. I ignore it, mostly b/c I'm used to it since my own name never gets spelled or pronounced correctly.

It's easier to ignore. I've had people spell my name as "Yen" and "Jin." For my LO people like to add an extra 'T' at the end.

I've always had people sole my name wrong...they leave off the h. I just stopped correcting them. With DS people like to put an e instead if an a. I just ignore it. I'm hoping one day they'll realize it when they see cards, etc. with his name.

Well my name is Sara, so I'm very used to seeing it spelled Sarah all over the place. And my daughter is Beatrix, which constantly gets turned into Beatrice. 'And what is her name?' 'Her name is Beatrix' 'Oh, BeatriCE, what a nice name'. I'm totally over it by now, I recognize that her name is a bit unusual.

I ignore it right now!

My name is misspelled all the time. I used to correct it until a friend said something very profound to me about it in college. Now I don't care. I only spell it out if it needs to be for instance I am giving out my email address.

Just let it go and as much as you can send her back notrs with the correct spelling. Who knows maybe one day you will need to spell it aloud for her and she will have an aha moment!

I ignore it. Even when they misspelled his adoption day cake.

My DD's name is Lara, people spell it Laura all the time. I don't bother, I just make sure to use the correct spelling and pronounciation as much as possible and hopefully they will get it eventually.

@plantains: off topic but I love, love, love the name Lara so much. It fits your beautiful DD perfectly.

I don't say anything. I do feel weird that my grandpa thinks our last name ends with an S and it doesn't...I figured my mom would say something to him but she never has lol.

My kids have pretty straightforward names so you can't really misspell them. But my cousin's baby is named Loren and everyone spells it as "Lauren". When we went to her baby shower, her aunt (who hosted the shower) made a sign that said "Baby Lauren".

Nobody spells DS's name wrong, because it's so common. But, with S, there is variations that I thought long and hard about it. People do misspell, but I only speak up when it's for something important.

For future LO's, if someone commonly spells it wrong, it'll depend on the circumstance, but I think at some point in your situation I would write a thank you note, signed by LO and put out many opportunities for the lady to read it right. If she still doesn't get a clue, I'd say something, cause one day your LO will know how to spell her name and will correct the lady (cause kids are like that) and the lady will probably wonder how she had been spelling it wrong all that time.

This kind of bothers me. I have a name with various spellings (Alicia - worst interpretation I've seen is Elysha, literally only two letters are even correct) so I purposely picked an easy spelling name for our daughter. She's Natalie, but people often go with Natalia. I usually correct it, because that's not just a mis-spell, but pretty much a completely different name. In your case, I'd probably just make a point of when I write to her using the name spelled correctly and hope she gets the point.

@mediagirl: My name has a Y where there should be an E. I've dealt with misspellings my whole life. It drives me crazy, but I'm too nice to correct people. I do correct people if they pronounce it wrong.

I am pretty sure I have the same name and the same 'a' problem. When I was born a family friend went to the trouble to make an ornate door plaque..... only there was an a in it. It's not too much trouble in Oz since without the a is more common but people usually double check how it is spelt. I would just have a quiet word with the neighbour though, since she uses the name all the time, but really it never bothered me.
