My 7yr old is super reserved around adults but I think if someone asked him if he had a job it would spark his attention! LOL

I have a 3 year old and I still don't know how to talk to other people's children. I find myself awkwardly ignoring them a lot.

@BananaPancakes: I am also super awkward with other ppl's kids! And often go into the super cheery high pitched voice...

Some good advice in this one.
I usually ask the kid to explain something to me--like what the toy is or what show the toy comes from, etc. Even if I know what it is.
I'm good with the youngun's but if you threw me in a room with middle schoolers and up, I'd sink. "Hey, how about that Taylor Swift, right?"

@HLK208: ha me either. Tha'ts why my preferred age for other people's kids is under 1, because they actually prefer the high voice!

hahah so funny. I have experience as a nanny, and I think I'm pretty good with kids. I also worked in the school for awhile doing the before/after school programs - so I had kids from age 5-11 and I did well with them too. But any older than that, I have no experience with and things are awkward for sure. I have a few teenage babysitters and I really like them - but conversations are weird... lol.

Yeah, I'm the act natural/ ignore a child, but envy the cool people that seem to effortlessly make kids smile with their silly talk. (Page 2)

Those were some great tips on page 2!
My friend has a 6yo who usually ignores me, but then I started giving him Star Wars Trivia quizzes ("What planet did Obiwan and Anakin fight on?") and now he is my best friend. It's so much work coming up with new questions though! Now I have to study up if I am going to see him.
