Everyone has days when the schedule goes straight out of the window, and I wondered how other parents dealt with the change in routine and if their LOs can cope, or simply melt down.

My LO went through a period where she would freak if we were out during nap time but these days she's better and can be stretched a bit without completely melting down.

She does really good with a break in routine since our routine is a little go with the flow anyways. But if it's off for a couple of days once we get back to normal there's usually a day or two of needing a few more cuddles and nursing than usual.

Today los schedule was way off. Usually nap time is 1:30, dinner time is 6, and bedtime is 8:20. We had to go to my grandmas funeral that didn't start until 1:45. It was oot so I couldn't get a babysitter. It ended at 4 and lo was great during it (she had one melt down and that's just because a strange man tried to pick her up and she has stranger anxiety, nothing to do with being tired). She napped in the car on the way home, but only for an hour and its a 4 hour drive. We couldn't find a place to stop for dinner until 7:30, lo had snack so she was ok, but still cranky from being stuck in the car so long. And then when we finally made it home it was over an hour past bedtime.
And really, with all of that..... No major meltdowns. She's pretty go with the flow

He does pretty well. Last weekend we drove to Lake Placid (8 hours), then to NH (7 hours, during the snowstorm) then home (12 hours). He napped incredibly well in the car (better than he does at home!), and was generally pretty chill when he was awake as long as we stopped every few hours to let him out of the car seat. He didn't sleep great at night when we were away, but everywhere we were was way too cold to for us to feel okay letting him sleep in the PnP, and he has no interest in co-bedding anymore, so that was tough.
We JUST sleep trained a few weeks ago and I was expecting to have to do it again when we got home (and he's teething on top of it) but he went right down when we got home and slept for 10 hours.
Today we were visiting my SIL and nieces and he was up for 5 hours...he's usually only awake for 1.5-2 hours between naps. He wasn't super happy baby, but he wasn't melting down, either. He was obviously tired (but wouldn't sleep). He napped in the car on the way home, and went right down with nary a cry tonight.
