I don't have time to read the whole article atm, but I can say right off that I would either a. keep my kid up or b. they would miss the test. I couldn't pretend I didn't see something. lol Just skimming the first page, I'm sad that anyone would act like that or do those things. ugh

Aside from that, I think a big thing for us is that we are always honest with G & he knows this. I've never had an account where G heard something from someone/where else and came back saying "Mom you told me this ____ and that isn't right, you lied to me". We really try to make a family structure that we need each other and trust is part of that, if we can't trust each other then we can't help each other. More than "not telling lies" we focus on the benefits of being transparent & honest with each other.

G has been caught in a few lies... maybe 4 or 5, normally trying to hide that he wasn't playing his DS when he was supposed to be sleeping and a couple times that he read a book that he actually didn't (he loathes reading). We've always held strict punishment for lying based on Rev 21:8 so definitely more that "God is watching". lol

I do wonder how P and our other kids will be... G is alot like me in being "honest to a fault". haha

I spend a lot of time thinking about the "right thing" to do, not because I HAVE to I guess, but because I think I owe it to myself to be the best person I can be. I think that modeling that for my child and talking about why we sometimes have to do difficult things for the sake of ethics and honesty--- and how good it makes us feel after we know we did the best we could do-- is the most I can really do there.

I also plan to teach this by example. Hence my reluctance to tell them that santa, the easter bunny or the tooth fairy are real because in the end they will feel lied to

I believe it's something that parents have to model on a daily basis, but you reinforce it with different age-appropriate statements and acts.

When my oldest was little simply saying that God was watching was enough. As he got older, things changed and conversations evolved organically. We talked about how lying is bad and not fair to others, and how being good also feels good. Now that he's 11, we focus more on how it takes so much energy to lie, and how the lie typically gets him into far more trouble than if he had just been truthful from the very beginning

I've always told DS that honesty is number one. The other day he got in trouble about lying about something he did. He got in trouble for lying, and in trouble for the thing he lied about.

It's a big thing here, so I've always told him it's always best to tell the truth.

DH and I are always honest with each other and with DS, so it's good to give a good example.

Also, in this example, I would do the treatment for the lice anyways, and then tell the school what's up. Telling the truth, and letting them know that the kid will probably contaminate the whole school if she takes that test tomorrow, will probably end in the school allowing her to take the test at a later date. Things happen, and it's not the end of the world.
