Do you have a PnP you no longer use? That could contain her.

It might be easier to just use natural consequences though? No real experience with this but I'm thinking if she bites randomly when she was playing outside, "Now we have to go inside because we can only do fun things like play outside if we don't bite" ???

We use the crib. She still goes to sleep without a peep. At that age she should be able to differentiate between discipline and sleep time.

At that age we either did a little bench in our front entry or the bottom step of our stairs.

@travelgirl1: when we just started only about 30 seconds ish then to a minute. Half the time she always laughs at the beginning to and tries to run away. But once we get her and put her back and she realizes we mean business she stops and starts "crying". It took quite a few times but it finally clicked for her. We reserve bedroom time outs for when she's being really bad and doesn't listen repeatedly!

We honestly just use a chair. The general rule is 1 minute for every year old the child is. We started around 18 months and would do 1 minute. We sat her in a chair away from but facing the wall and if she got us, we'd go and put her back in it without saying a word to her. At the end, we'd go do the "explain and hug it out" thing. Basically, the Super Nanny method.

We've only had to do it about 4 times in the last 7 months. 3 times for hitting and once because she was throwing the mother of all bratty tantrums. The first time was a disaster, the others all went pretty well.

@locavore_mama: I use the same method. At that age, DS would have to sit or stand in the corner for 30 seconds to 1 minute. One of us would stand behind him to keep him there. Sitting in the corner has always worked very well for us. He's now 3 and I can tell him to go to the corner when he's misbehaving and he will, crying, and he will stay until we come get him. We always explain why he had to go to the corner when the time is up.

We didn't do time outs at that age but I found ignoring worked wonders!
When my LO did something I didn't like I would sternly tell them "We don't hit" or "we don't bite" or " we don't throw toys" and then get up and walk away - If there is another friend/sibling there take that person with you so the child is left alone. No kid wants to be alone!

We've been lucky so far in that DS only hits DH or me. Do we sternly say that we don't hit and then put him down and ignore him for a short amount of time. I don't know if he gets it yet but hoping it clicks in soon.

I have no advice, just hoping to figure this out for my 19 mo. old son, too. He's been hitting (no biting) and I've implemented time-out's on the sofa, but so far he thinks it is fun. Just plays with the fabric, looks around, sometimes smiles (I look out the corner of my eye). I really do think he just doesn't get it yet. But I feel your frustration!! I, too, don't want to use the crib for any possible negative associations. So I'm not really sure where to put him.
