Ok, this is probably going to come across poorly, but I will just preface this by saying that I have regularly expressed to DH that all I want for my birthday and holidays is a heartfelt card from him and each of our LOs. No presents. He always does buy a gift though as I think he feels guilty not doing so, particularly as I buy him presents, but that is solely because I enjoy doing so, not because I expect one in return.

That being said, he has let slip what he bought for my upcoming birthday and I'm a little bit miffed. He is buying me a utility sink, yep, a laundry sink, because he thinks it will help me get on with things a bit quicker and make my life a bit easier. Now to be fair, we have been talking about installing a utility sink in the utility room since we moved in last year, but it's been on our DIY to do list and isn't exactly what I would consider a birthday present. I would much rather he keep it as another DIY item and not buy me any gift rather than try to play it off as a birthday gift. Mind you, he'll be installing it himself so he's been buying himself all kinds of 'toys' to get the job done, which may also be irking me a bit...

Am I just being ridiculous? When I laughed it off to DH, truly thinking he was joking when he said he was getting me a utility sink, he got really grumpy and went on this big long explanation of how this is going to make my life easier and he thought it was a really nice thing to make it easier for me to get the laundry done. Umm, thanks?!

Anyway, what would you think in this situation?

As an addendum: I need to add that DH is usually very thoughtful, this just seems to be a bit of a bonehead moment (either that or I'm just being a brat!)
