My husband recently applied for a new job, and I'm just wondering what the typical timeline looks like between applying and getting a call. He applied on the 28th, and the job posting closed on the 31st. I assume they weren't even looking at applications until the closing date.
So, HR bees, after a posting closes, how long before you actually start making calls?

Depends how busy I am, how many applications were received, how pressing the need to get someone in place is, etc.
I've interviewed and hired within 2 weeks of closing before, but I know I just got a new job in the same company and it took them three months to hire me. Really depends on the variables.

I've had call backs immediately after submitting my resume and months after submitting. Once I applied in April and was interviewed in August.

I'm curious about this too because I also applied for a job on the 28th! I tend to lose hope after 2 weeks personally

It really depends. I've gotten calls or emails for an interview as soon as a couple of days after applying, but sometimes it's at least a week until I hear something, a week or so for the interview, and then two weeks after the interviews have been completed.

It really depends on the company and their HR processes. Typically on average it's about 2-4 weeks depending on the size of the company, other reqs, etc. I've also seen extremes as within days, to months long processes, or even calls after a year if they don't refresh their systems for old job reqs.

Thanks guys! It's actually a government job, so I'm thinking it will take even longer. It is a pretty essential job, but I know the government doesn't rush to do anything!

@photojane: ha, if it is a government months! My friend applied for a federal job, and 5 months later she got an interview.

@Smurfette: it's just city government, so hopefully it won't be that bad! His current job is contracted through the state government, and I think it was a little over a month between application and call. I always wonder why it takes that long, but I know nothing about HR!
