Got my annual physical exam results back and have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Does anyone else have any experience with it. What changes in lifestyle worked for you?

I have hypo, and really it's just one pill a day and that's it. It takes some time to balance your dose, but other than that it's really easy to manage.

I have had it for 10+ years. Once you are the right dose pill it is easy as long as you remember to take it.

I have this too. It's been recommended to me to avoid gluten because my hypo is caused by hashimoto's which is an autoimmune condition. Also, I just switched about a year ago away from the Synthroid medication to Armour. I have been much more regulated on that medication. I also take selenium, magnesium and zinc as supplements. I feel better now that I ever have.

@Jass: it is more complicated than I fully understand, but it has to do with the way the conversion between T3 and T4.

@Jass: Hashimotos is an autoimmune disorder as stated earlier. Your body produces antibodies that attack your thyroid. So instead of your thyroid just being a little sluggish, it is actively being killed by your body. Hashimotos in many people benefit from a gluten and dairy free diet, b where as hypothyroidism is just a shortage of hormone production that can be replaced.
With Hashimotos your levels can swing back and forth depending on the level of current inflammation.

@Sams Mom: @Jass: I may have misunderstood your question Haha. My response was in reference to the difference between medications. Like above, Hashis is largely affected by inflammation, so my diet is super important. If you dont know for sure whether or not yours is caused by the autoimmune condition I would ask your doctor to do more thorough testing. If it's caused by hashis there are some lifestyle/diet things you can do that dramatically improve symptoms even if your levels are "normal". My doctor didnt test for Hashis until I specifically requested the test, and that was probably 10 years after my initial diagnosis.
