What can anyone tell me about this? The nurse just called and said it's very mild but they're putting me on medication today. Of course everything I can find about it is scaring me out of my mind.

Its totally treatable, and nothing to be worried about! You'll likely have several blood tests to make sure the medication is working. But the medication just replaces a natural hormone, so there shouldn't be any side effects or trouble for the baby.

I have hypothyroidism (not pregnancy related) and they just check my blood once a month to make sure my levels are normal. I take my meds at night so that I can still eat first thing in the morning....morning sickness made it way too hard to be awake for an hour before eating! Now I just can't eat before bed, but for me that is easier to manage. My first pregnancy my dose was changed a couple times to keep my levels normal, but this time I've been on the same dose throughout.

No worries, they'll just put you on meds asap. I got checked every four weeks at my appointments and they had to keep upping my meds as my hypothyroidism continuously kept rising. It was a little tricky taking the meds and then waiting 30 minutes to eat in the AM... I was SO hungry!

As pp have said: not to worry!! I found out I was hypothyroid while TTC & got on a low dose med ASAP. We've regularly monitored my TSH & T3 (&T4?) levels now through TTC & pregnancy & they have made some small dosage adjustments along the way. I think it is no problem to be on this medication, & especially if you just need it during pregnancy.

Thanks everyone! Google is scary so this definitely helps! I should be able to start the medication tonight.

I was diagnosed after my first-trimester blood panel, they said my levels were fine for a normal person but not good enough for pregnancy, so I received a (tiny) synthroid Rx. They did one blood test after that to make sure it was fixed, and that's been the end of it. I still take the (tiny) pill every morning. I honestly never gave it a second thought, definitely didn't occur to me to google it.

I have it, and have 2 healthy babies. It's no biggie, you just have to take a pill every day and they'll check your levels a few times during pregnancy, and a couple of times postpartum.

I've had it with all three of my pregnancies and although it scared me to death the first time around it hasn't caused me any problems at all. They check my levels monthly and increase my meds as the pregnancy progresses. I did have a miscarriage with my second pregnancy but it was not related to thyroid issues. Don't worry, it's very manageable.

I have hypothyroidism (not pregnancy related) and I take medication every day. They doubled my dose when I got pregnant and just checked my levels periodically to make sure everything was ok...

It's not a huge deal. They had me get blood drawn once a month to check my levels. They only ended up upping my dose of synthroid once very slightly near the end of my pregnancy.

The same thing happened to me in my first trimester - it totally made me nervous when they called me with the news but I was fine on the small dose of Synthroid that they put me on and they checked my levels a couple times during the pregnancy. I hated having another pill to take in addition to the vitamins but it all worked out. The doctor said it was safe to take and haven't seen or experienced anything negative with it.

I'm not sure if this will make you feel better or worse but I've had hypothyroidism for years. It was very easy to manage during my pregnancy after a few adjustments. However, it has been impossible to regulate in the year since I had my son! My dr said it's common and we just need to stay on top of it.

I was diagnosed during my infertility struggle, but I take a very low dose of medication and during each of my pregnancies they've just monitored me regularly to make sure that my levels are in the appropriate range. It's really no big deal (although google scared the crap out of me too when I first found out). You get really used to taking the pill when you first wake up - it's very much like taking birth control.
