We made it a full 6 months EBF (no other liquids or solids)!!!
I can't believe we met this goal! I'm surprised we made it 6 weeks, let alone 6 months!
It has never been easy... we started out with toe curling pain due to LO's hoover-like suck, then dealt with mastitis and clogged ducts. It took me awhile to get a pump (insurance issues) and then I was traveling a lot, so I never built a freezer stash. Since returning to work, I've had a pumping deficit every single day and have had to make up for it with extra pumping sessions at home. Somehow we scraped by and I was able to avoid supplementing. (Not that formula is the devil, but I wanted to avoid it if possible for a number of reasons).
I have taken LO to get weighed almost every week and she's been gaining fine. I expect that when we go to her 6 mo visit on Friday, she will have doubled her birth weight (she's about 17-17.5 lbs now and was 8 lbs 12 oz at birth), so I think she's doing fine for a breastfed baby.
My husband has never been very supportive about bf'ing, so I can't tell you how much I appreciate the support I've gotten on this site. THANK YOU. I know for a fact we would not have made it this far if not for all your help with supply, etc. I especially appreciate everyone who responded to my first thread about supply back in March: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/crap-my-milk-supply-sucks-and-my-lo-just-started-daycare. Your support and tips helped so much!
LO is showing some signs that she is ready for solid foods, but not sitting up unassisted. I will probably wait a little while longer and then start giving her some solids. It's still going to be a struggle to pump enough milk for her (I'm now sending 15-20oz to dc per day), but I'm just going to take it one day at a time, like I have been doing. The goal is to make it to at least one year.
