Just a vent but I really hate car shopping. The sales people are so frustrating to deal with. We have two kids and just want to be able to walk in and out quickly. we went to multiple places and they are all about time wasting techniques that keep you there for hours and in 2 cases they didnt even have the car we wanted! And this is at the dealership. They end up trying to sell you a different color, or different version than what we ask for with the the price always been higher than what we clearly stated we were prepared to pay.
I wish I could order a car online and have it arrive at my house!

We've been car shopping for two months....it's terrible so I totally feel your pain! We only had to take the kids once so far and it was awful! Now that we know what we want my husband is doing all of the negotiating and I probably won't even go to the dealership until I need to sign something. Lol

We also abhor car buying. The last car we bought was the best job we've done so far.
We bought a certified used vehicle using True Car to find the vehicle we wanted in the price range we wanted, called the dealer to double check that it had all the options we wanted, and drove our trade-in over there. We walked in at 730pm, test drove the car, we were about $1500 apart between the car and trade-in and we ended up somewhere in the middle. I had keys and was driving off by 830pm. -

Tesla has a great customer service experience, you literally can order it online. The price is the price, the people that help you are salaried, so there is no pressure.
Other dealerships hate the business model, but from a buyers perspective, it's a great experience.

I put off car shopping for 2 years because I hated car shopping so much (especially with small kids). I ended up going through Costco's auto buyer program and they made it so easy. You show up, show them your Costco card, test drive the car, then they show you the price (which was lower than I was hoping to pay for the car). I went home, talked to my husband, called them back and reserved the exact car I wanted (the dealer inventory is on their website). We went in the next day to sign the papers and drive off. We were at the dealership an hour and a half, but that included them explaining (in detail) how to use the "smart" features of the car. It was really easy.

@bees_knees: We bought a new car. We also considered used cars (1-2 years old), but we were able to buy a new car for cheaper (sales price), but we also got a better warranty and better financing with a new car.

I hate car shopping too because it took us forever to decide on the car. The negotiation and actual purchase were really easy though. DH sent me an article about this method where you email 7 dealers (I included Costco) with the specs you want and ask for their best price. I got a huge range on our 2016 Odyessey. The whole process took about a day of emailing and we ended up paying under invoice. The other dealers I was negotiating with told me it couldn't be legit but it was. We stated up front we would pay in cash so they weren't getting us on financing either. And when I was in the parking lot of the dealer that gave us the best deal another one offered us $100 less that absolutely could not be topped deal. I felt pretty bad ass.

@gotkimchi: I haven't been able to find the article but this is the email I sent based on it's advice. I'm sure that the dealers knew I was copying from a website but that didn't seem to matter since they want the sale.
My husband and I have decided to purchase a 2016 Honda Odyssey EX-L, ideally Silver/Grey as soon as possible. I'm getting pricing from several local dealers and will go with whoever offers me the best deal. If you don't have the vehicle on your lot, please let me know the closest match you have.
Please provide the following in your bid:1. Price
2. List any additional fees I will have to pay that is not listed on the invoice (example: doc fee, dealer prep, etc)
3. Are there any dealer add-ons I will be required to pay (pinstripes, etc)
4. List any rebates or incentives currently offered on this vehicle including loyalty and conquest bonuses (do not include this in the price of the bid)
5. List the out the door price including taxes, incentives, and all fees - residence in [insert city]Thank you, I look forward to your response.

So literally after my second was born, my husband really wanted to switch out my car for a minivan. We were deciding between two brands. After explaining predicament, both dealers let him "borrow" the car overnight so we could bring it home and test it out and see what we liked without dragging a newborn and a toddler.
We did end up having to go in for the final signing with the kids and t was rough with all the paperwork and manager deals and what not

lets just say we had to go to 4 different toyota dealers and over several days to finally get the color, options and price we were happy with! but atleast its over now -
I've only gone to 1 dealership where we didn't have to deal with the pressure. We are thinking about going back to that dealer because of the experience.
