We haven't used the 4.0s but love the Freetimes. We do not use inserts for the Freetimes, although since he started STTN on his belly most nights I did get a pack of inserts (Stay Dry Doubler) to use in them for extra protection (he was waking up soaked through down to the crib sheet). We also have half a dozen Elementals but I like those less because they take much longer to dry and stain easily.

I'm going to do the freetimes because they dry faster.

No you don't need inserts

@JoJoGirl: 4.0s are a pocket diaper. The BG Elementals are the organic AIO version I believe.

More than likely for daytime use you wont need more in a freetime.

I never invested in freetimes because I wasn't happy with how the BG microfiber held up. At least with the 4.0 I can replace the inserts.

If you have seen the CB's at target, the 4.0 is pretty similar. They PUL is a bit thicker on the BG and the liner instead of being fleece is a different material. Also, I prefer the two snaps on the BG versus the three snap on the CB.

Honestly, you don't want to stock up on one kind. Go ahead and order one or two of each. You can always sell used or buy used just to try them out.

If you are in Philadelphia, it is definitely worth visiting the Nesting House story in Mt Airy. They have a really wide selection of cloth diapers (including Bum Genius) and the staff are really sweet about showing you the different types and brands. When I was first contemplating cloth diapers, I basically walked in one day and asked them to teach me (and they did). I believe they also offer cloth diaper workshops once or twice a month.

I also bought some BG diapers at a baby store in Ardmore called Nurture.

@Chillybear: They are pockets, so you have to stuff them. They do come with both liners. I don't find stuffing a problem, I just do it while I watch a show or something. I find that I like pockets because I can throw the liners in the dryer and just hang dry the covers, which dry in a couple hours. It's pretty boss. It really cuts down on the hassle of CDing for me, knowing it wont take forever for them to dry.

and FYI, you CAN dry the covers, I just don't like to make a practice of it.

Honestly, don't commit your whole stash to one style. Buy a couple of a few different brands and see what you like first.

We use free times and love them. They dry pretty fast for aio and my hubby loves that you don't have to stuff them.

@stargal: Isn't it great? We used to live nearby, so I would go all the time just to check everything out. I also loved their new moms group after my son was born.

@Chillybear: Not weird! I actually never did it, but I bet it will be really good. Oh, they also used to offer newborn rental packages and trial packages (of a variety of types). I did both; it was so helpful to get a sense of what I liked and didn't like. Turns out I really can't stand Fuzzibunz - I had been ready to buy a whole bunch based on the online reviews, so I'm really glad I got to try them first.

@zippylef: Right? They aggravated me to no end. I hated fiddling with the leg thingies. Plus they leaked. Every time. Ugh, I am having Fuzzibunz flashbacks.

It is so individual, I despise all my bumgenius stuff and have now sold it all. The fit was horrendous! I puffy heart my fuzzibunz, because my baby had scrawny legs and they are the only mass-produced diapers that get a good fit on him. Quite a few WAHM diapers fit well, but that is a whole other can of worms!

@Mrs. Chalk: @Chillybear: I was going to suggest that place, too. We took the cloth diaper workshop and it was GREAT. My sister even drive up from Baltimore to take it cuz I couldn't so raving about it! Hubs was skeptical about CD'ing until we took the class. Now he's fully on board. We're going with the Free time cuz it's an AIO - closest thing to a sposie = easy for grandparents and daycare!

@Chillybear: I just wanted to share that we have been doing cloth for a year with a stash of exclusively BG 4.0s and have been very happy. I know several people have advised you to get a variety, but that seemed overwhelming to me to keep track so we just made a choice and didn't look back.

The newborn inserts were great at the beginning and then we transitioned to the larger inserts when she needed more absorbency and she went up a size. We do use disposables at night because it is easier, and DH and I both WOHM FT. If I was home, I would probably try harder to get cloth to work at night...

The 4.0s dry really fast--we hang everything up on the line in the morning and bring them in when we get home from work. We spray them out with a diaper sprayer and that has worked well. Stuffing them is easy.

I have no experience with the freetimes so I can't compare but I just wanted to share that they have served us well so far!

@MsMini: @scg00387: I was actually surprised I hated them too, because i got them used from a friend who was IN LOVE with them. I was really disappointed. I could just never get them to fit her correctly and they leaked like crazy.

Like @MsMini: , I actually prefer smaller and WAHM, brands too. My favorites are SassyBumz and Peachy Green AIOs.

@Chillybear: It stands fot Work At Home Mom so they are diapera made by work at home moms. We use Bumgenius 4.0s and LOVE them!
