I was totally expecting a crazy name, but it's not really crazy and I really can't see why they're not allowing it. Stupid.
I get it for some names, like wiggy-watta or something, but blaer? wtf.

@.twist.: Yeah, it sounds like "Blair" to me! I think Bjork is a much stranger name
ETA: The reasoning is so weird! "This time, the panel turned it down on the grounds that the word Blaer takes a masculine article, despite the fact that it was used for a female character in a novel by Iceland's revered Nobel Prize-winning author Halldor Laxness."

Wow. That's a little bit ridiculous to me, and not a very large name database. I hope she's allowed to use her given name here soon!

@ladyfingers: Yea, I feel like Blaer fits right in with Icelandic culture and all their crazy words!
I'd sue them too!

@ladyfingers: and also, "Halldor" is ok but "Blaer" is not? I guess it sounds different in Icelandic

I was just going to post this! I'd be OK if we had standardized spelling in the US.

I just read about this! Yeah the names database seems rather small! DH has lots of family in Sweden (I know, far away from Iceland, but Iceland is sometimes considered scandinavian!) and I noticed that there seem to be a lot fewer surnames and first names there too.....

I thought it was interesting that nobody really uses their surnames there!
