What's the ideal age for a train set? I'm thinking about waiting a few more months before giving one to our 2.5 year old. It's a wooden set with batteries.

I bought a train set for a 2 year old. He wasn't impressed but his 3 year brother is obsessed with it!

That is one of LOs big Santa gifts, he's 2.5.

We bought a small set when my son was a year old, maybe? But to actually build and play with it for an extended period of time, my son was older, like almost 3.5. This year, he asked for more wooden railway engines.

We got a small one for M for Xmas - she turned 2 last week. She really likes the one at a friend's house.

I just got one for my nephew who's 32m. All similar aged kids I know who have one are obsessed. I want one for DD!

LO got a train table for his 2nd birthday and has been obsessed since. Now at 27 months I see him getting even more creative with it.

DS got his around 18 months and has always been obsessed. He plays with it every day and is almost 2.

My son got a small set for his 2nd birthday. He really loves it. He isn't so much into building it yet but loves to put the cars together and drive them around.

My LO had a small ikea train set, and he showed interest around 18 months. By 2 years old he was obsessed, and we bought him a train table. He plays with it daily, and my 1 year old is already getting in on the action.

DS got his right before 2. He was better at building by himself around 2.5 though.

We bought my daughter's when she was 15 months old, for christmas, which was way way too early. I'd say two, at least.
