If it's a nice maxi, go for it!

A Maxi dress does'nt usually qualify as cocktail attire...but you're pregnant. Just make sure you look stunning as always.

I agree with above posters...you're pregnant, so you get a pass on it. Wear what you'll be comfortable in.

I generally think of maxi dresses as casual and the venue seems fancy.

IMO when an invitation refers to cocktail dresses, its specifying a dress you could wear to a cocktail party (something dressier than a sundress or church dress). In my mind its not necessarily referring to the length of dress. Does this make sense?

BTW - you can easily wear flats with a short dress.

I agree with @Smurfette, as long as it is a fancy Maxi, go for it. You're pregnant! I'll probably be in flip-flops at my Dad's wedding (granted...it's in Vegas :p) because my feet are so horrendous. My point is, be comfortable!

I think so, absolutely. I think that cocktail just means something more formal than causal, less so than full black tie. I think that a nice maxi dress, paired with classy (flat!) shoes and bag totally fit the bill. And even if someone did think it was odd, they'd cut you plenty of slack being all big and pregnant.

But you're pregnant. And I know I wouldn't be comfortable in a cocktail dress. Do you think they would rather have you skip out (of course you wouldn't anyway..) or be comfortable and wear a maxi?
They want you there. I'd just dress it up.

If you weren't pregnant, I'd say go with something dressier. But one of the things I loved about being pregnant is that i could wear things that are more casual all the time and no one cared. Wear the maxi, just make it look more bohemian chic than outdoor festival with your accessories.

I usually think a solid color is a little dressier, so I think if you do decide to get something new, you could still do a maxi, just in a darker solid. I love the first one! I think that would be perfect.

But I still do think you could wear the original one and the only reason I'd be considering a new one is that you are immediate family. Also, it's not that hard to talk me into shopping for something new...:)

I like @Foodnerd81 idea. The length is probably fine and you're pregnant so you want to be comfortable but I think you might feel a little under dressed up in the floral dress.

@Cherrybee: I like both of those blue dresses you just posted.

I think the two that you just posted are a bit more appropriate than the one you have now. I think the one now would be ok for the civil ceremony, but you should go a little dressier for the swanky one!

Pregnancy = free pass, everyone just wants to see the belly anyway

However, I agree to go with a black maxi and bling it up with some gold or pearls. Black anything would fit in well with cocktail attire.

i really like the one shoulder dress! both of the 'fancy' maxi's you posted are gorgeous and i think would work better for the evening

@MegWag: I haven't been to many weddings where people are wearing hats... people my age tend to wear fascinators, if anything. I've never worn anything on my head as it's not really me. Your dress sounds really nice (btw, I'm British)

@illumina: Thanks! So if I did an Ivory fascinator, would that be ok? All my American friends would be disappointed if I didn't have something on my head in the pictures
