@alohaorchid: @bhbee: @FliegepilzHut: Thanks!! Not taking any time off, immediately starting the new job. It was a bit sudden but will be a great move in the long run.

@alohaorchid: My RE has commented about how I'm young and still have time. I'm 30 1/2. I think he means it in that if we have to delay one cycle, it's okay because time is still on my side. He might think differently about delaying for months at a time. I don't think males have any aging issues to worry about...

@CupQuakeWalk: It's weird because the only side effect I noticed from Clomid was an increased sex drive pre-O. It took a bit to even connect the two. I wonder if my natural O is just a bit weak and that's why I noticed it so much more this time? I guess we'll know in a couple weeks...! Or, maybe the lower stress job will help.

@alohaorchid: I know this is a VERY sensitive topic. My own personal approach has been-- let's try to get childbearing out of the way by 35 (or as close as possible)! I definitely have a sense of urgency about this, since it looks like we're going to need extra help (IVF?) and the rate of success with IVF starts to decline after 35. As far as men are concerned, there's been some recent research data that suggest that "older" men (>45?) are more likely to father offspring with certain psychological disorders...and apparently there is some age-related decrease in fertility as well. Here's a WebMD article about that:

    http://www.m.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/features/age-raises-infertility-risk-in-men-too

    All interesting stuff.

@CupQuakeWalk: Yeah, it was pretty terrible...especially since I was thinking the entire time, "what if my AMH level is super low and I can't do IVF after all???" However, after 4-5 weeks, I set about making some other appts...so I guess it's all good.

@LindsayInNY: Yay! A lower-stress job sounds like just the thing... What are you doing here--shouldn't you be getting busy somewhere?

whoa. i just reread some of my terrible typos! i seriously need to start proofreading before i hit submit, they're shameful. i apologize.

@alohaorchid: it varies so much from person to person. i'm glad i didn't start super young. i very much enjoyed my early/mid twenties & took time to live alone, travel, become more grounded & secure in who i am as an individual. i didn't feel a need to rush, but now i feel the clock ticking. 40 seems to be the new 35 as far as reproduction for women. personally, i'd like to be done by 35, but we'll see what happens, never thought #1 would take 3+ years to achieve. mr. bird & i are the same age (he's 11 days older, don't let him know i acknowledged that we're the same age, he will always be older than me! ), so while paternal age affects offspring, it won't matter as much for us because my maternal age will be a factor before his age becomes a concern.

Ok ladies, no bad news today so I'm calling for betas when they open. I've actually been doing a pretty good job telling myself that nothing I do will change the outcome so I shouldn't stress too much. I can't deny being antsy about it, but it helps.

@doxielove: I'm happy your ultrasound came back good. I totally understand wanting so find *something* wrong in the testing. Good luck with your HSG! Also, I know a girl who's insurance doesn't cover RE's but she sees an OB that specializes in fertility; maybe there's someone like that in your area that falls under your insurance?

@alohaorchid: I'm so happy you decided to get a referral and DH is all good with that idea!!

@bluestriped bee: Hooray for no polyp!! Can't wait for your iui

@FliegepilzHut: I'm inclined to agree with your DH about moving on to another office. Unless of course you really liked something about that office, things like dropping the ball or "forgetting" about patients would make me uncomfortable.

@LindsayInNY: How did your bd timing go? Fx for your TWW!

@MrsTal: Good luck at your WTF appt today!

Sorry if I missed anyone! I go for Beta #2 today; results and a chat with my doctor tomorrow afternoon! Beta #1 seemed normal/good but I know it's about the doubling.

I caved, we're gonna COBRA so I can keep my surgery date next wk. It's over $1,500/month so I was just having trouble digesting spending that much when Mr. Bird wasn't working, but my mom is going to chip in (she kept offering & felt strongly it was the right choice for us, I didn't ask). I have such mixed emotions, needing the surgery makes me feel broken, the surgery itself scares me, the outcome makes me feel hopeful, having my mom help with the COBRA makes me feel helpless & juvenile. I don't know. I'm sure I'll be glad once it's done. Mr bird is at a second interview right now & has three more interviews between tomorrow & Monday, hopefully one will be a good fit!

I just had one of my shortest natural cycles in a long time, only 35 days. It makes me wonder again if we should try unmedicated natural IUI or TI or just bust out all the big guns and keep going with the plan of 2 more medicated IUIs before just moving on. Hubby also isn't very into a vacation this year and I'm kind of tired of planning too and just want to be lazy and stick around to keep trying. A 2 week vacation would mostly likely cause us to be out another cycle and as much as I hate to let TTC control my life, I'm really feeling the pressure which I'm sure isn't helping. At this rate I'm doubting if I'll even be able to have a second (I know, thinking too far ahead considering I can't even have 1 right now) by the time I'm 40... time isn't on my side. *sigh*, this is depressing me now.

    @Kelli_Deluxe: thank you!

My WTF appointment today was...not that helpful. My RE doesn't feel that morphology alone is a big enough deal to really say it is our problem. Since DH last SA was good as far as count, concentration, and motility, the RE doesn't feel it has a big enough impact. However, I feel after nearly 2 years of off and on trying, with no other indication of something being wrong, this has to be it. I'm grasping at straws here. Our doctor was really great with everything and after we explained that IUI's ($1000 per cycle) would be completely out of pocket for us he was a bit more understanding of our hesitation to move forward with that. He laid out our options, IUI, lap to see if there is some pelvic scarring or endo, or IVF. He gave us a good breakdown of how they do IVF and felt that given our info, young, healthy, with good antral count, our odds of IVF success was somewhere around 65%. If I had the money today I would do it, because I am so tired. I am tired of the uncertainty, I am tired of the tests and the visits and the scheduled forced sex with my husband. I'm ready to have a child by any means necessary, but we don't have the money and I really need to think about that. DH wants to try some more IUIs but I just don't know if I have the energy to go through another IUI cycle for such small odds of concieving.

I'm sorry for the novel, if anyone has any helpful advice we would appreciate it because I have no idea what to do here.

@MrsTal: We have MFI too. Do you mind sharing what his count and motility has been in the past? (wall me if you want). If it is all out of pocket like it is for us at $1,000 a try I would want to save that money to put towards IVF. How much would the IVF be?

  28. CupQuakeWalk

    coconut / 8475 posts

@mrs. bird: first of all, the hope that the surgery is giving is reason enough to be excited and forget the negative thoughts but to have such a support from your mom and for you DH to have interviews this week?! You have a lot to be grateful for. Don't beat yourself up on all the other things you are feeling because there is no use in feeling down when things really are moving in the right direction! I am not down playing your feelings, so I hope that's not what you think. I am just trying to point out that this is all progress and it may be the path to a baby soon (God, I hope so for you: fx!). Good luck to your husband with his job search

@PurplePumps: could you guys do a vacation as like a "baby moon" after you get pregnant instead?

@MrsTal: gosh, I'm so sorry:( I wish you could have a diagnosis you believe in so you (& DH & RE) could feel 100% confident in whatever interventions you decide (& pay for!)

  29. MrsTal

    clementine / 901 posts

@mrswin: our RE said he doesn't consider MFI but unexplained. Last count was 31 million per M/l 47% motility with 1% morphology. A month and a half before that for our iui it was 15 million per m/l 43% motility and 1% morphology. Ivf is around $12,000 including meds, I feel like $2000 for the two more iuis could be better spent on our meds for ivf and give us better odds.

Wow! I missed out on a day & so much to catch up on! Typing out on my phone while I have a spare moment. I apologize if I don't get to everyone, but sending positive vibes to all!

@mrstal: I love your reading room! The idea of having a swinging papasan chair sounds relaxing! I hope your WTF appt goes well!

@bhbee: @kelli_deluxe: FX for the both of you having AWESOME betas!

@LindsayInNY: congrats on the new job! I hope this is our month & the clomid was the tix to getting you a sticky BFP!

@doxielove: yay for a good appt & good luck on Friday's HSG!

@PurplePumps: woohoo for a short natural cycle. Also 40s are the new 30s. My aunt was 40 when she had my cousins & both got into the top high schools & colleges of their choice! So even if it does take us into our 40s (hopefully it won't), future LOs can still be healthy & happy.

@mrs. bird: yay for being able to go forward! Also, gotta appreciate all the support & help from family & friends during this difficult journey. Good luck!

@bluestriped bee: yay for no polyps! I'm excited for your next update about IUI!

@happygal: I'm excited for the both of us to get out of the TWW next week!

For my update, I just got my progesterone reading & it was 27.2! Last cycle it was 19.2 so I'm keeping myself positive & excited for my POAS date! I also emailed my RE after seeing @happygal: IUI numbers & RE emailed back to say DH's numbers are normal.

I'll update our list or roll it over to tomorrow's new thread in case I don't have time to update tonight. Have a wonderful day ladies!

Ok, so the girl at the desk told me I could call after 2 and see if they came in today ... Beta was 73. I'm pretty happy with that for 13dpo. I am going between feeling super zen and feeling afraid, which I guess makes sense. Now to wait for Friday afternoon and results for #2 ...

@bhbee: Your first beta is right around mine! We've got this

@lazypanda: That's a great progesterone level! Can't wait for your TWW to be over!

@MrsTal: I'm sorry your appt didn't go as you'd hoped, but I agree that I'd put that money towards ivf vs. iui's. $1000 a pop is quite a bit. I'm not sure if you've ever said, but have you ever been on clomid or anything else paired with TI? Maybe that's a good middle to help your chances while you save up for ivf.

@PurplePumps: A vacation may help de-stress a little. What if you just went somewhere a few hours away for a few days instead of a big vacation?

@mrs. bird: I'm happy you decided to let your mom help you with COBRA. I think you'll feel a lot better once this surgery is out of the way and you and DH can move forward with treatments once one of these jobs sees how awesome he is

Hey all! I'm going to be joining this thread now because I've just learned my DH has a morphology issue. SA came back at 8%. I think his little guys heads are misshapen. I am going to read all seven pages of this thread and get to know you all. I hope I'm accepted!

@MrsTal: I don't know much about IUI, but did the doctor recommend it as a possible option? Could the doctor wash your DH's sperm, fish out the good ones, and proceed with that IUI with those good ones? If so, call me crazy, but I wouldn't hesitate to try one or two rounds of IUI. Unless you happen to have exactly $12K sitting in an account ready to go for IVF and are unwilling to spend a penny more, I'd think that if you were going to spend $12K, you might as well spend $13K with the chances that you walk away having only spent $1K. Of course, I'm clearly someone that is not debt-adverse.

@MrsTal: I have been at this along time and we are finally moving on to IVF in June/July so my response may be clouded by that... with those numbers (my RE likes to use the worst one as a benchmark) I would move onto something that would increase my odds more and start saving now...you have to do what feels right to you.

Do you have any risk factors for endo for him to recommend a lap? Have you had an HSG or SHG?
