If you give your first child a family name, would you be concerned about giving your other children family names?
My parents gave me a family name (after my grandfathers first and middle). My brother has a family name but its a bit more distant (my moms uncle) but my sister is just a name they liked and my moms middle name. I think my sister sometimes feels like she got "less" of a family name because her first name is just something my parents liked.

I hope it doesn't matter because LO is named after my Grandma and my sister, but our second likely won't have a family name. There are no other girl names that I love for first names. She (assuming she is a she when she is conceived!) will have SIL's middle name as her middle name though. If we have a son, he will have DH's name as a middle name.

My middle name is very family, shared by 4 generations. My brother's isn't, at least intentionally. When he was 2 or 3 my mother's family said "oh, for random uncles?" and she realized it was a family name, she'd just forgotten 
So I voted it doesn't matter at all, they'll each be their own person either way.

I really don't think it matters, but I think we'll try to stick to family names.

Both LOs have a variation of a family name (DD is first name and DS is middle name) but just because we liked the names; family connection wasn't deciding factor for DD but was for DS.

I don't think it actually matters. My siblings and I all have a first name that our parents liked, and middle names after family (me after my aunt, sister after my mom, and brother after my dad)
I think if the first two have first name family names, it would be hard to not give the third one as well.

I don't think it matters....sometimes there are only so many family names you want to use, you know? There are family names I had my heart set on and then they sounded really funny with my married last name. Or you meet the kid and it just doesn't fit.
Our kids both have family middle names one from each side, and dd's first is a diminuitive of a family name, ds is just one we liked.

We gave LO a paternal family middle name. For LO #2, I'm thinking that we'll probably give that sibling a maternal middle name. Considering DH pretty much named our first, I'm going to name our second.

I said it would be nice but not required.
DS has DH's first name as his middle. If we have a little girl next her middle will be the same as my middle. If we have another boy I would ideally use DH's middle for his middle, but I'm not a fan of it, so we may use a variant form instead.
My mom did the same for our family. My brothers have some form of my dads name (one a variant form and one has my dads middle for their middle) and I have my mom's middle.

For us one part of the name is related to a family member in some way. It could be first (our top girl name is my grandma's maiden name) or the middle (DS ha my middle name, 2nd boy will have DH & FiL's middle & my grandpa's first).
I think it's a nice way to honour family members.

I have all family related names and my brother and sister have none! I think it's interesting but I don't think it really matters.

I am one of four and none of us have family names except my brother who has my dad's name as his middle name. It never even occurred to me to be bothered by that. We will likely stick with family names for middle names but I keep tossing around the idea of naming our first after my father who recently passed away.

No I don't think it's "required." I think name your kids what you like whether it is a family name or not! My mom is named after her aunt, but her brother's are just names her parents liked!

I don't think it matters. My brother shares my dad's first name anf my sister share's a name with my aunt. I've never been bothered by it.

All four of mine have family names.
Oldest son has first and middle family names
Twins only have first names as family names
Daughter has half family in her first name (named Lilliana, the Anne part came from MIL and two aunts and we added it on to Lilly) and a family middle name.
That being said, it was just our choice, but I don't think it's necessary

I don't think it matters. My older brother is named after my dad, just reversed first and middle names. My middle name is my mom's first name. But, my younger brother has a name all on his own. I don't think it matters to him at all.
