DH and I are currently debating if I'm going to go back to work 4 days or 5. I'm 37 weeks today and can't figure out if this is a conversation I should have before I go on leave, during, or after going back.
When did you have this conversation with your employers?

How long is your leave? I'm in Ontario, so I've got about a year. I probably won't have that conversation until closer to my return. But if you have less than that, it might be a conversation to have before you go.

I did it before going on leave - but it was pretty standard for women in my office to come back 4 days a week, which is what I elected to do.

I'm going to see how I feel during my leave and ask then.
I plan on giving at least a month's notice.

If it is a make or break thing than I would do it before you go on leave. I wanted to see if it was an option, but if they said no it wasn't a big deal so I did while I was on leave (we ran the numbers after I had a break down about going back-I hadn't even thought of it before then.)

@mrsmenow: I sort of already told my supervisor I was considering 4 days and she said she would advocate for me with our superiors if I wanted that. Plus they originally hired me for 4 days and upped my hours to 5 days right after I got hired, so my sense is going back to 4 shouldn't be a HUGE deal.

I plan on having this conversation with my employer during my leave. I'm currently shooting for a M, W, F schedule after my leave is up, and I'm hopeful I'm able to split my caseload with another therapist with very young kiddos.

I had the conversation before my leave. While I was on leave, I'll be honest, my mind was elsewhere!

I asked after I went back. The answer was no but we set up a WAH schedule for 3 days a week.
