I've often wondered this. If you are a stay at home mom (or dad!) do you plan on going back to work at some point? Or do you plan on being a stay at home mom until your lo goes off to college?

I plan on going back part time when my LO ('s) go to school. I want to be able to be here when they come home from school and be home with them then. I have my masters and I feel like I should use it.
But I also think it would be awesome to continue to be a SAHM. Before I would have thought that it would be boring sitting at home all day.... but now I know that I would have a million things to do to fill my time. I guess we'll see how our finances are when the time comes. But for now I'm going to assume that I'll be going back to work part time.

We plan on having a few more kids so I'm planning to be a SAHM for a pretty long time. Maybe once they are all in school and I'm bored I might try to find a job?

I help my husband with his (our) business but once LO comes I'll be basically a SAHM. I don't have any desire to go back to an office job. I wouldn't say I'd never get another type of job because you never know how you'll feel once LO is older but I think it's more likely that I'd just continue to help my husband and/or pursue hobbies that maybe would make a little spending money for myself. Part of it is that my mom has always stayed at home and I definitely have wonderful memories of my mom always being around for me, cooking dinner when I got home, helping me with homework, available to pick me and friends up from places after school. As of now, that's what I want our life to be like.

After being a SAHM for 18 months, I just returned to the workforce and I must say that it's a welcomed change even though the situation isn't ideal yet.
I honestly loved being a SAHM mom but as LO got older, I felt like she needed a bit more socialization than what I was able to offer her. I also didn't want her to be dependent on me for constant company. AND, this mommy needed a break, lol. I tell you, working full time is much easier than caring for a toddler all day. However, the full-time mommy + caring for toddler after hours + doing everything else (grocery shopping, cleaning, etc.) schedule is killing me. Luckily, the ultimate goal for me is a part-time position,(hopefully by early next year) which I think would be ideal. That way she gets socialization time and I get adult non-baby time without sacrificing too much bonding time. Can't wait.

I'll likely return to work part-time in the next 1-2 years. I'm finishing up my Master's right now, so I don't want to be out of the workforce too long. I think part-time would be a good compromise for us until the kids are in school, but I do want to go back full-time, too. I love being home with my babies, but I don't think I'm interested in staying at home long-term.

I'm hoping to start looking for part-time work sometime next year, when LO is like 6 months old or so. More for my own sanity/desire to do something with my degree than any other reason. I think part time work is the perfect compromise.

I'll probably go back at least part time whenever our youngest goes to school. However, we plan on having 3-4 kids and will probably homeschool them all until 4th or 5th grade, so who knows when that will be.

My dream would be to stay at home with two or three kids until the youngest is in preschool, and then return to work. If we had three kids spaced out by 2 years each, and if they went to preschool at 2 years old, that would be about 8 years.
Of course, 8 years is a LONG time to be out of the workforce, especially in my field. So I will probably work part time or do consulting or something to stay up my field. It's either that or start a different career, but I don't think I want to stay at home indefinitely.
Having said that, I don't know if I'd want to return to the exact same type of job I have now. If I had three school aged kids, I'd want to be able to be involved with their activities, and a demanding full time job would not allow for that. So my dream would be some sort of part-time job that is lucrative.

Not sure yet. If I do, it won't be for another.. 16 years or so.

I always assumed I would go back to work when the youngest started preschool but that's still such a long ways away that who knows. I might have to go back earlier if our financial situation changes, have an epiphany about a career change, go back to school, or none of those.

I have no idea what my plan will be once my current (and future?) LOs are in school. Or if I'll make it as a SAHM til then...it is TOUGH! Time will tell I guess...

Not sure yet... I'm really enjoying being a SAHM and if our finances allowed, would love to stay home until our youngest is in school. Then, ideally, I'd like to work part-time so I could still be involved with their activities and be home when they get done w/school.

I don't have any plans to return to work at his point but I would consider substituting a few days a month at some point or if the right situation presented itself I would take a job in a different field but it would likely be part time.
Of course, this is all dependent om finances and my husband's job.

I'm a SAHM by day/law student at night... so yes, I have every intention of re-entering the workforce once I'm done with school. But I love that I'm able to be Baby X's primary caregiver right now too.

I'm working on building my freelance illustration business. So work, yes but I want to be at home!

DH and I are committed to me being a SAHM until all of our children are in school full-time. We only have one LO right now but we plan on having three, so I will be home for quite a while yet! I don't feel the slightest bit of guilt or regret though - I have my master's degree in addition to a teaching certification (completely separate field from my master's) and have ten years of working experience in my chosen fields. I wouldn't trade my time with DD for the world. Work will always be there if I so choose, but I will never get this time back with my LO.
So no, I don't plan on going back to work any time soon, and if/when I do, it will be part time or in a school setting so the hours are conducive to raising school aged children. I've put in the long hours working at my career and reaped the benefits, but now it's time for me to do the same with the best job of all.

Yes, I plan to, but we are hoping I can stay home with each child that we have through babyhood, so it will probably be a while. We plan to have 2 more(3 total). I stay up to date with my profession getting my necessary education credits as well as working casual on weekends.

It's hard to say. I got pregnant right out of college so I never had the opportunity to really enter the workforce. We want two more kids in the next six years so maybe when the smallest goes to school. I have this dream of one day opening a clothing store. The hours would give me more flexibility to be home but I'd get to create something I'm passionate about.
