I got pregnant with DD 2 months after graduating college so I never really had time to begin a career. That being said, I have always wanted to open my own clothing store and I still plan to when the time/place is right and the kids are in school.

I was an accountant. I have no specific timeframe for returning to work nor have I decided whether to go back to the same field. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it!

@kpc324: I'm a teacher too & will be a SAHM once our LO arrives in April. I have thought about the reading specialist idea too. I currently teach high school and might prefer the schedule of elementary when our kids are at that stage.

I worked in the Senate and there's no way I'm going back to that. My office was great, but it's not an easy environment for someone who has a family. Nor does it pay well enough! I have no plans right now, but I'll probably make a career change. I don't really want to go back to any kind of high-powered career. I just want to keep myself busy, do something enjoyable, and have the flexibility to still be able to run forgotten lunches to the school.

I don't plan on going back, mostly because I would have to do another year of schooling at least. So, if I'm going to go back to school I might as well do it for a field where I would make more money. The problem is that I don't know what I want to do!

I went straight from grad school to staying home, but I did return to my gig as a sitter that I've had for over five years. I don't really have an interest in returning to my grad school field.

I did, I was in a project management rule and I have since returned. I spent 2 years at home.

Yes, but probably with a different population. I was a therapist before (in a substance abuse/ mental health treatment facility). I want to do part time work when I first return, so likely I will do outpatient or possibly work in corrections.

I'm a paralegal for a criminal firm. Tomorrow is my last day actually. LO is 8 months and I do plan on working again someday but not in the same field. I am actually going to try to get into nursing school.

HECK NO.

I was in retail. A high enough position and seniority that it was decent money, and they offered me a promotion when I did end up quitting...but no. No no no. I am very hopeful that I will never again in my life have to work retail. I'm currently finishing my degree while being a SAHM.

I was a high school teacher and I don't think I will be going back. The district I was at is horrible and they are making it worse and worse on teachers. I am not sure what I am going to do. It feels weird that I am trying to figure out what I want to do when I already did all this ten years ago.

I was a journalist and the way the industry is going, no . It would be more sensible for me to retrain as a teacher so that's my current plan. The last time I wrote a newspaper article was the night before LO was born. I had every plan to continue freelancing but it just didn't fit in with having a baby. I couldn't guarantee that if I had an interview arranged that she would be asleep and not crying. I loved writing though, but I think going forward I need something better suited to our family dynamic and financial goals.

My background is in PR/Marketing. I do freelance writing now - press releases, editorial, blogs, etc. so for the foreseeable future plan on just building that up. When she's in school I'd like to do something p/t like work in a library or something like that.
