What time is your reservation? My MIL can watch LO but she won't be home until 6:30....the only available reservations are at 9 or 9:30. I think I will tell DH we can skip the V-day dinner this year!

Holy smokes, 9/9:30 is WAY too late for dinner! (says the girl who's asleep by then)
What if you just go out for a very casual dinner at 6:30/7:00? Even if it's *just* pizza? It doesn't have to be a fancy/romantic dinner to be an enjoyable date night

I think we are doing something on Friday instead. DH and I both have the day off.

@blackbird: Maybe we can cook at home instead?!

We're going out Friday at 6pm! The only other time they had was 9pm and like @blackbird, that's my bedtime.
Even some super fancy restaurants will let you do take-out! Maybe you can get a nice meal to have in?

I think we had a 9 pm reservation last year. It actually worked out great for us!
We're not going out this year. I'm hoping DH brings home a yummy dessert instead!

We always celebrate on a different day. This year we are actually going to dinner this Friday, because we got tickets to a show.
It helps avoid the pricy set menus that the nice restaurants around here usually do for v-day, and we can get better times for our reservation.
We usually just do a card or something small on Valentine's day (we're not big gift people)

We usually just stay in and cook cause neither wants to fight the crowds for reservations. And this year, at home in yoga pants and tshirt sounds a lot more comfy then dressing up for some restaurant.

we've resolved to not go out on the 14th anymore because of the crowds and sub par service. I think we're going to stay home and make heart shaped pizza this year. We have a date planned for the following week anyhow.

We did V-day last year, but since my DH's B-day is Feb. 15th, I always feel like it's unfair to do an "us" thing when it should be a "him" thing.
So this year, we're not going out for V-day (although I got him something small, and he usually gets me something small as well), but we're going to Atlantic City this weekend for his B-day, so maybe we'll have a romantic dinner there as well. =)

I tend to avoid restaurants on V-day because they all have price fixed menus with almost no selection and they bring your food to you about 1/2 a second after you order it then drop the check down while you're still eating. Plus they jam in even more tables than normal so I feel like I'm either sitting in the kitchen or at the server station, in everyone's way.

Valentines day is also super packed everywhere and ridiculous wait times. We will just stay home

Nope. We never celebrate v-day. It's such a money grab of a holiday.
We usually go out earlier, DH's birthday is on the 12th so we'll celebrate then.

Ok, so no one has a reservation for V-day! Lol.

@autumnlove: We love cooking in on Valentine's Day. It is fun to get dressed up and have a nice meal out, but we've gotten into a tradition of taking what we would spend on a nice dinner out ($100 or so) and going hog wild on really nice stuff at Whole Foods. The Valentine's Day before our wedding we bought some really nice filet mignons, a delicious bottle of cabernet sauvignon, and made homemade pasta with a red wine-mushroom sauce and roasted brussles sprouts finished with some flourless chocolate cake. We listened to the Frank Sinatra Pandora station and ended up finding out first dance song for our wedding! It was really fun to cook together and miss out on the craziness of dining out on such a popular restaurant holiday.

I think we’re the only ones going out haha, I think our reservation is at 7 or 7:30. We go to our favorite fancy place every year for V-day (and our anniversary, and birthdays, etc.); they do not upsell, lower service, lower quality, or pack more tables in. You get the same attention and the same amazing food you get any other night of the year.

We usually do but DH has to work this year, so I think I'll take out DS. Just pizza or something though, nothing fancy.
Anytime I get reservations it's usually after 8pm. I don't get home until 5:30/6 and hate rushing around getting ready to go back out.

DH is cooking for me this year. Last time he tried doing something "fancy" (red wine reduction sauce) we gagged on it & threw it out lol.

No childcare = no reservation.
Our daycare is hosting parent's night out on Friday, so I think we will give it a whirl for the first time and head out for a date on Friday night instead. We are in desperate need of a reconnection.

@autumnlove: I am SO excited. I told DH he really had to go all out to get me away from DD and he did! Plus DDs seperation anxiety whining makes it easier to go lol

We are going to dinner and a movie on Friday. That would be to late for me on a Thursday.

I would go, even at 9, if I had childcare. Not sure of DH's schedule for next week so we haven't made any plans yet.

We're going to the movies and we'll probably go home and cook or order pizza. I hate crowds!

This is the first year we have ever gone out for Valentine's day. We aren't even going out ON Valentine's because it is cheaper for the restaurant we want to go to if we go the Sunday after. Plus I hate Valentine's day crowds. We usually stay at home and cook for eachother. We might do that again once LO is born. But it seems like celebrating on a different day would work better for everybody.

@prettylizy: That is exactly the we deal we are going for! Er ha vent had fondue in 6 years and I am DYING for it! I will wait a few days and save almost $50!

@autumnlove: That's what we do! Best tradition we've ever started!
