1 of my personal accounts still has my maiden name . . . but I use it mostly for junk mail.

My primary personal e-mail address has my maiden name initial, I didn't see a reason to change it.

Yes. I keep the maiden name one for junk mail but use my married name one for correspondance.

@MsLipGloss: Same-- I kept my maiden name hotmail account to use as my junk mail address. My married name gmail account (which I created as soon as we got engaged but didn't use right away) is only for actual people I know. I like keeping them separate now.
My work email changed when I changed everything with work.

I have my email account with my maiden name still and I created one with my married name.

Yep! I actually signed up for my new gmail address right after we got engaged so I could have it ready and no one else would take it!

My gmail (primary account) still has my maiden name. I want to change it cause it is long and I have to spell it every time if I have to give out, but I am lazy. Seems like a pain to let everyone know about a new address.

I did but that was actually because I had still been using my student email from college and it was set to be deactivated about two months after we got married.

I still use my maiden name for work and my personal emails! I use my maiden name a lot more than my married name even though I have legally changed my name.

The email address I used prior to marriage only used my first name. A few months after we married I got a firstlast@yahoo account. Thankfully my married last name is very unusual so I didn't have to worry about it being taken.

I have two gmail accounts that are linked. One with my married name and one with my maiden name. I created a new one while job hunting. I wanted my résumé to match my email address, but people can send to either and I only check one place.

I also kept my maiden name in my email but changed it legally. But I wish I HAD changed my email though. You wouldn't believe how much mail I receive for other people with different variations of my maiden name. I always do the nice thing and write back, sorry you have the wrong person, but I'm getting pretty tired of it. If I had changed the email address to my married name, I doubt I would ever have this problem.

@Smurfette: You could maybe forward your email to a new address?
If you turned on a vacation message for your old email, that would take care of letting people know your new address automatically!

This is my second marriage, and my email had my previously married name on it, so yeah I changed it. Maiden name is one thing, but having your ex's name is another.

@mrbee: I have thought about that but I heard that gmail doesn't forward emails. I haven't looked into yet. I mean only been 2 1/2 years, maybe I should get on that.

@Smurfette: Dunno if this works, but maybe worth trying?

I married youngish (21) and still had a ridiculous hotmail account with a address I thought was very cool when I was a teenager. So yeah, I was fine with switching it!

DH actually created a bunch of gmail accounts for me before we were married so I could pick the one I want without anyone taking it. We don't have a common name, but I have gotten emails meant for someone with the same last name and a VERY similar first name.

I use my maiden name gmail account for junk mail and my married name gmail for real correspondance.
My maiden name is actually the same as B-List actress and I get a quite a bit of her emails about scripts, festivals, etc. It's kind of fun :o) And coincidentally, it's also the same name as someone on SATC after they got married.

I made a new email address when I got married but still use my maiden name account as my primary - but I want to switch it eventually but like others I'm just lazy about it.

I did. I had a gmail before so it was really easy to just forward messages to my new gmail.
My work one is still my maiden name. I went from a super common easy to say/spell name to a really unheard of/impossible to spell name. I am in sales so having an email that would be hard for customers to spell is keeping me from changing it at work. That, and I have about 500 business cards to use with my maiden name/email. Once I run out I will probably change it at work too.

I did the same as Mrs. Bee. I changed my name legally but my email address is my maiden name. My work changed my email to my married name.
grapefruit / 4703 posts
@CarrieLouWho: ok I think I figured out who you're talking about, and that's pretty cool!
I still use my maiden name because I couldn't get a good gmail with my married name. I do have one, and I used it for job searching (so it matched my resume) and now I just have everything forwarded to the old gmail acct.

I changed my name but kept my maiden name gmail. My new last name is much more common so I would have had to add numbers or make it original somehow. My old one is just firstlast. It kind of makes me happy to still have my maiden name around.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
Yup - I changed my primary email account to my married name.
pomegranate / 3580 posts
Yep, switched over my email and everything else, with the exception of one credit card that is making me fax in my marriage certificate. I'm too lazy and never use the card anyway...

Gmail makes this EXTREMELY difficult unless you want to start from scratch with a whole new account. I have been using my gmail address personally and professionally for 5+ years so I have a ton of emails archived, and there is no way to transfer them to a new account. I did change my "display" email name so that it comes from my new name, but the email address remains the same.
I know that you can create a new email address and have it forwarded to your old one, but that seemed really unnecessary. Occasionally the fact that my email address has a different name confuses people, but it's been fine. Just slightly annoying and I wish Google of all places had a better solution for this.
