In an ideal world, I would love to job share with another teacher, so I would work M/T and every 2nd Wednesday, he/she would work Th/Fr/every other Weds.

I don't think we could afford it though, especially after loss of pension, seniority etc. Maybe in a few years.

I would love to work M-TH 8am-3pm. It's just not possible in my current company, though. I'd love to be home in time to clean a little and enjoy cooking dinner instead of rushing through it!

@winniebee: you have to keep your super nanny. You just have to! She saves your sanity. That's worth every penny.

If I could make my own schedule, I'd only work 3 days. I'd do 25-30 hours total. That'd be pretty sweet.

I'd love to work 4 days a week/28 hours a week, but my company won't allow it for me.

7:30-2 only 4 days a week would be CLUTCH.

If I could choose - I would only work while DS was in school - so M-F , drop him off at 8:15 and then go to work and leave at 3pm to pick him up - so just slightly less hours

If money weren't an issue I would also have Mondays off

Now, if daycare wouldn't be so restrictive on my options/cost, ideal would be 3 full days T/W/TH.

In your situation with children headed to school, my ideal would 5 days 9am-2:30pm (or whatever time I needed to get off to pick them up from school). And hopefully that would leave me time to exercise before starting work day.

WAH in both scenarios - I currently WAH 4x week, and in full time

In an ideal world, I'd work PT either at home or at the office (my work now is 20 min away anyway) 3 days a week, Tue-Wed-Thurs. DD goes to daycare these days right now from 8-2. If I can do that, then she'd just go from 8-4 or 9-5 (DH can drop off/pick up). Then it'd be like I have long weekends with her all the time!

In my ideal world I would love to tutor from my home!
Have T-Th set up and have children from 9-4
Charge $25 per hr per child
If I did this 3x a week and had at least 1 child every hr I could make $525 a week more than I do now.......

Ideally I would like to do 9-3. That way I don't have to rush around so much in the morning so early and in the afternoon I could run an errand and have time to pick up my kids and actually play with them and cook a decent meal before bedtime routine starts.

Bonus would behaving Friday off and still sending the kids to daycare so I could have a free day! A girl can dream, right?

I teach full time and commute and feel like it's too much! Twice a year I do intervention M-Th 8-12 and it's glorious. If I could I'd do it permanently. I get to still be professionally stimulated, use my education, contribute to retirement and keep my skills current. I also have all afternoon to spend time with DD and do play dates, library time, grocery shopping etc. I dream about it!

Ideally? Zero hours, ha!

But realistically, I wouldn't mind something along the lines of 7-1, Mon-Thurs.

i'm happy with my schedule now which is work at home 3 x a week, but ideally i'd love to work at home every day and only go into the office when i need to. esp as my kids get older. i'd love to be able to pick them up from elementary school without sending them to after school care.

I work 3 days a week - T, W, Th, from 8am-330pm right now (so 50% time) and it's been sanity saving for our marriage and family because I'm pregnant with #2. My husband works a ton even though he gets to work from home a lot so it is helping us balance. We had my mom as a nanny until recently those 3 days but had to send DS to daycare starting in January and full time was really our only option, so he goes on Mondays and Fridays during which I try to get a lot of errands done or get extra rest during times like now when DS is having a lot of night wakings. Or to work overtime, which I will need to do the next few weeks while it's super busy at the office. If I'm home on M or F, I can get laundry and a lot of cooking and shopping done during that time we can spend more time together as a family on the weekends.

DS will start a 2's program at a preschool in September that goes from 8:30-12:30 and you have 2, 3, 4 day options. Extended day is 2:30pm dismissal (basically they nap), or full day until 5pm (aftercare). I think while I'm on leave we will do 5 day a week half or extended care days so I can keep up with the new baby and then transition him to full time when I return to work because the infant toddler room for DS2 at the same facility is only a full time option. My plan is to keep the same work schedule when I go back to work and keep care options for Monday and Friday available by keeping the kids in full time. When everyone is eligible for school hours (so when DS2 can start the 2's program and DS1 is in pre-K), I will ideally transition to 4 days a week from 8-2pm or 830-230pm 4 days a week. I would probably want to stay there until both kids are in real school (so when DS2 starts kinder) at which point I would go 5 days a week at those hours and depend on aftercare or an afternoon mommys helper/nanny to pinch hit on days I have to work longer hours (they are predictable times 3-4 times a year). I really want to be present for kids school trips and be able to take them on activities when they are a little older but not yet in real school. And once they are both in school I want to be home for homework and sports and activities.

My ideal work schedule would be working 2-3 days per week from 9-3.
